Had a fantastic time in Potsdam over thanksgiving at the conference for the Society for the History of War! A lovely city to explore, got to hear many compelling and interesting presentations, and presented some of my research as well. Big thanks to @sochistorywar.bsky.social for a great few days!

Me (speaking very tentatively!) about some early research conclusions on Special Air Service (SAS) command and culture in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Thanks to the Society for the History of War and @unipotsdam.bsky.social for a wonderful 2025 annual conference in Potsdam.

A takeaway from my conference paper at SHOW on SAS command + culture in late 1950s/early 1960s: it takes time to explain why SAS officers' shoots at Chatsworth with Andrew Devonshire - related to the PM - matter when explaining how 22 SAS outflanked the Parachute Regiment in BA / Whitehall politics.

This year's @sochistorywar.bsky.social conference was a real joy!

Very grateful for the insightful questions and feedback on my paper about atrocity photography during the Kenya Emergency.

From rationing and humanitarian relief to scientific innovation, state control, and the weaponisation of hunger, food has long been central to the conduct and experience of war.
