How Peter Thielβs Relationship With Eliezer Yudkowsky Launched the AI Revolution
The AI doomer and the AI boomer both created each other's monsters. An excerpt from "The Optimist: Sam Altman, OpenAI, and the Race to Invent the Future."
The quasi-religious cult in Silicon Valley attempting to produce a super intelligent AI of course has ties to the techno-fascist billionaire Peter Thiel.

βHagey's account suggests that [the old OpenAI boardβs] reasons were much better than we knew at the time. And the world today might look very different had someone said so when it mattered.β β @caseynewton.bsky.social

nowing what we know now, we know the board might have said: Altman did not inform the board that the company had developed and planned to release ChatGPT. He claimed that three enhancements to GPT-4 had been approved by a joint safety board the company had established with Microsoft; in fact, only one had been approved. Altman also let Microsoft test GPT-4 in India without the safety board's approval.
Imagine if the board had said that Altman also owned the OpenAI Startup Fund, an investment vehicle, personally β something else he hadn't told them about. (He explained that the fund was in his name for tax purposes, and meant to be a temporary arrangement, but the situation had persisted for two years.)
Imagine if the board had said that they were responding to concerns from top executives, who had complained about his leadership for months, and supplemented their allegations with dozens of examples, many of which were supported by screenshots from Slack.
An excerpt from @keachhagey.bsky.social's new book on Sam Altman explains in the greatest detail yet why the board fired him in 2023 β and raises the question of what would have happened if the board had told us all this at the time www.platformer.news/we-finally-k...
