A wins a win but another poor performance. We seem to be turning winning ugly into an artform. Not a problem for now, but we'll need to be a lot better for the final two games in the group. Belarus deserved their late goal.

Both of these things can be true.

Slower than a week in the jail.
12.10.2025 17:04 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Frustrating first half. A goal up, but we're not playing well.
The tempo isn't high enough. Too many extra touches and passes for the sake of it.
Delivery into the box not good enough either, especially from Gannan-Doak who has seen plenty of the ball.

🏴 Back at Hampden for today's international against Belarus.
This the type of Scotland game I used to worry about. Not concerned on this occasion, but would like to see us boss the game and rattle in a few goals.

Game 60: Lesmahagow Juniors 1-2 Caledonian Braves.
A gripping South Challenge Cup won by Braves in added time.
A great showing from the Gow who battled hard to make light of the three division gap between the sides.

Pie review: Scotch Pie, Lesmahagow Juniors FC.
A bargain by current standards, but the filling was on the thin side.
The filling itself was tasty but had a mushy consistency. Pastry had a nice crunch. Not bad but would pay a bit more for a bit more.

No goals at Lesmahagow at the halfway stage.
The 'Gow missed a huge early chance to take the lead but missed from the spot (vid)
Both sides have had other chances, but Braves have had the upper hand for the most part, as expected.

Treating myself with a visit to one of my favourite football grounds today, beautiful Craighead Park in Lesmahagow.
A big game for Lesmahagow Juniors today as they host Lowland League side Caledonian Braves in the South Challenge Cup.
Three divisions between the sides.

Game 59: Greater Croftpark Rose 1-2 Glasgow ANSAR. An even and enjoyable game that ebbed and flowed.
A second half penalty won it for ANSAR after the sides shared two first half goals.
Rose scored a beauty of a 35 yarder but missed a last kick spot kick to earn a draw.

Not a bad morning in Glasgow, so out once again to avail myself of some grassroots fitba.
Football has been played on Glasgow Green for 150 years and likely much longer.
Today, Greater Croftpark Rose take on Glasgow ANSAR in the Saturday Morning AFA Championship.

I think there was one occasion all right where he got in behind his opposite number and it ended up being a Greek goal kick. I like him but he was totally ineffective.

Not sure how it happened, but it happened. Huge result 🏴

A low key, goalless first half at Hampden. Feels more like an end of season friendly than a vital World Cip qualifier. At least we're not getting beat.
Greece not allowing us an inch in the final 40 yards. We're giving them a bit more space than we should.

Hampden tonight for the international as always.
Very difficult assignment against Greece, but winnable all the same.
Feeling more confident than I did a few months back 🏴

Game 57: Strathclyde University 1-2 Glasgow University.
Keenly contested. Glasgow scored early on in both halves to lead 2-0 before Strathclyde battled back to cut the deficit and, unsuccessfully, chase an equaliser.

Got another opportunity to take in some BUCS student football today.
This is a Scottish Tier 1 game and a first team Glasgow derby as Strathclyde University host Glasgow University on an immaculate grass pitch at Stepps Playing Fields.

Game 56: St Johnstone 0-0 Ayr United.
Not the worst 0-0 I've seen.
St Johnstone the better side over the piece and still unbeaten, but they lacked a cutting edge.
The nearest thing to a goal came from Ayr, a decent Rus shot forcing a good save.

Pie review: Steak & Gravy, St Johnstone FC.
Pie Sports do the Saints catering now, a downgrade on before. This was the bog standard Pars Foods steak pie. Not terrible for a mass produced pie, but unremarkable. Pastry needed another few minutes.

No goals at McDiarmid Park.
St Johnstone have disappointed. Slow and laborious at times and easy for Ayr to defend against. They need to do things quicker.
Ayr look capable on the break but haven't tested the Saints goalie.

Game 55: Edinburgh University 0-4 Glasgow University.
Glasgow got off to a great start in this one, forcing Edinburgh coach Calum Elliot into two early changes.
It improved Edinburgh and they should have scored a couple after the break.

Fair play to whoever came up with this idea.
Crowds at BUCS games at East Peffermill can sometimes be in single figures, but well over 100 here today.

Pie review: Edinburgh University FC. Food included in the £5 admission price today, successfully attracting punters along. Missed out on takeaway pizza due to high demand and this Bell's pie was the consolation prize. You know my feelings etc etc.

I'm not averse to watching University teams play each other - the top levels of the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) leagues are a good standard.
Today, the Scottish Tier 1 season opens with Edinburgh University v Glasgow University at East Peffermill.
