08.10.2025 08:29 β π 42 π 6 π¬ 3 π 1Just Like a Man By John Keats He sat at the dinner table with a discontented frown, The potatoes and the steak were underdone And the bread was baked too brown; The pie was too sour and the pudding too sweet, And the roast was much too fat; The soup so greasy, too and salty, T' was hardly fit for the cat. "I wish you could eat the bread and pie I've seen my mother make, They are so nice and 't would do you good Just to look at a loaf of her cake." Said the smiling wife, "I'll improve with age Just now I'm but a beginner; But your mother has come to visit us And today, she has cooked the dinner."
Found this great little poem in a collection. I'm not sure it was really Keats but in this version they say it is.

08.10.2025 07:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Just for clarity, the unemployment numbers under this government may look terrible, but keep in mind, Luxon has driven tens of thousands of Kiwis overseas as well, so its actually far worse. These numbers are just the ones that couldnt leave.

08.10.2025 07:13 β π 1146 π 469 π¬ 14 π 52These costumes really ruin the optics of the propaganda videos the far right wants to make, which is what they're there for.
ICE will eventually target them and brutalize them to try to run them off, so they can get useful propaganda video. I hope they're prepared for that.
None of it makes any operational sense. All performance theatre of the worst kind.

It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact β which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. For sale sign up in #NorthOtago near a beach. House went on market today after some weeks & months of intense cleaning out. It will still rake 6-12 weeks to go through the sales cycle but then i will be heading North again to Auckland & Melbourne then further afield. Iβve loved Otago. Tks locals.

Instead of taking up with the RNZ opinion piece, see that 20 economists from around Aotearoa have written and hand an open letter to the government asking them to change tack in the direction they are leading the economy.

Every time i see a figure for unemployment i think about the people who had permanent roles who are now scrambling for temp roles, the people who had roles disestablished and were forced to take a lower-paying role. All the people who don't count as unemployed but don't have what they used to
05.10.2025 21:10 β π 45 π 18 π¬ 4 π 0These are not necessarily long-term, permanent jobs. They are predominantly seasonal workers, short-term contracts, not a long term well paid career.
This policy is just making it easier for employers in primary industries to exploit our young people.
Thanks - will do - I met them already because we also have an 1850βs dress they had a look at. It wasnβt Otago related but this is.
