I have been a translator for 15 years and have not noticed a significant negative impact from AI. Translation work has been stagnating, at least in terms of the fee I can charge, for a number of years. On the other hand, the opportunities in post-editing of machine translation are increasing.

Spanish board game publisher Bellica 3rd Generation has just published 'Una Guerra Imposible' on the 1st Carlist War in northern Spain. The designer is David Gómez Relloso of 'Crusade and Revolution' fame. If you like chrome-heavy block games such as 'This War Without an Enemy' then this is for you!

War of the Rohirrim was a little tone deaf with the accents. Why do most of ruling family members (Helm, Hera, Hama) have RP English accents while the older brother Haleth is broad northern? It seems like he and Wulf are doing their best Sean Bean impressions.

Still, Hera was not nearly as bad as Galadriel from The Rings of Power. Such a rich character created by Tolkien, but transformed into more of a comic book superhero in the TV series.

Anyway, it was okay. I appreciated the setting and attempt to depict Rohan culture. I wasn't surprised they made changes to the canon from the LoTR appendices and other works. I can accept having a young woman as the main character. But why are they always superheroes in these Tolkien spinoffs?

I've finally watched The War of the Rohirrim. It was inevitable that I'd get round to doing so, as it is based on events that formed part of a game I designed 20 years ago called The Long Winter. But I was put off for a long time by it being in anime style and, of course, the poor reviews.

This weekend, Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June, I'll be demoing games at the UK Games Expo. I'll be at the Nuts! Publishing stand (Hall 3A, 511 - next to Ares Games) and we'll have Diluvium, Guerra Éclair, and Rolling Seas.

I got a copy of QMG: East Front a year ago. I've only managed to play it a few times so far. Very enjoyable. Enough variety in the cards to ensure different results each time. Also nice luck mitigation mechanics.
