it looks so fun. definitely getting all the old heads back together
kinda wish skype wasn't dead, then we could have the old mkw vibes too. maybe chatango's still a thing?
I wouldn't mind that at all tbh

17.01.2025 02:38 — 👍 42 🔁 1 💬 3 📌 0haven't clicked on this site in a while. there are so many cat pictures on my feed from random people, this is great
14.11.2024 14:40 — 👍 79 🔁 4 💬 1 📌 0I just want to be happy for jackpot but japan keeps serving up these dreadful ideas because they're too god damn humble to (kindly) tell melon where to stick his rapid pro. like how can I walk away from that set and think "wow we're finally good" when every map is lost at weapon selection
14.04.2024 09:24 — 👍 27 🔁 0 💬 3 📌 0you can't play a high watermark objective with a weapon that loses you the game when you miss. you will always get clutched on. it's even worse when you have no retake because you have no ranged paint and no bombs. it's the devs' fault, but when your job is to win, the game being shit is no excuse.
14.04.2024 09:17 — 👍 23 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0like if I play one map with these weapons, I'm immediately thinking "nah there's no way we play this", regardless of what odinx or melon or riukun or whoever are telling me. my brain would be going wild over all the ways we lose from this pick.
it's clear that jp teams do not think like this.
mist on rm can be very annoying, sure. but you have to be able to look past the gimmick and remember that you *can't play the game* if you don't have bombs. if you run sensor, you can't run mist. you need a hard wall to block fast pushes, not a god damn rapid that literally can't kill quickly enough
14.04.2024 09:14 — 👍 20 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0but holy hell this was a disaster. japan is never cynical enough to say "alright this game's ass and we need to accept that if we want to win. we need to pick bombs, abuse the hell out of stamper, run edit/pencil" etc etc and instead we get these ridiculous gimmicks like sensor + 2 mists on rm
14.04.2024 09:10 — 👍 21 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0but. man. I've been saying for years that japan is super vulnerable and isn't a strong region (the west is just excruciatingly bad at the game) and every single element of my reasoning was on full display here.
and of course I don't want that to undermine jackpot's win here by any means
in a shocking twist, I think this is a bit too spicy for twitter
japan has overcooked their comps in four out of four worlds appearances. at first I thought this was an issue with the, shall we say, boyz' club (ggboyz + calamari) scrimming each other and ending up with bad ideas
there's no longer any headroom to play splatoon in splatoon 3, so if you didn't learn how to play splatoon in the last two games, you're waiting until splatoon 4. and that's assuming they learned anything from this game.
and there's nowhere that's feeling this more right now than oce.
the mental overload that comes from playing splatoon 3 comes from the maps being tiny, bombs being overpowered as hell, specials having aoes that are way too big and do too much damage, cooler being cooler, and short-ranged weapons being stupidly overpowered and overtuned.
08.04.2024 01:18 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0you might think that coaching is the way forward, and to a degree it is, but the way you have to think is so foreign to most players, and so counter-intuitive to the way splatoon 3 is designed, and the game leaves so little room to think about what you're doing.
08.04.2024 01:14 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0the changes to x rank mean that, while you might fight good players from time to time, there's never that consistent level of quality that you got from 2500+ lobbies in s2. and even if you get jp opens, best case you fight a bunch of jp aim lords. nobody's playing the game. (can't imagine why!)
08.04.2024 01:12 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0in the oce region we have a unique problem where there have only ever been two teams (untitled/poncho cat/washed cat, and lime soda/justice/solstice) who ever really learned the game. the other option was playing jp x rank or jp league. in fact that's literally how we got good at the game as a team.
08.04.2024 01:09 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0if you did not learn how to play the positional game in splatoon 1 or 2, or if you didn't bring your positional game from a different shooter, you will never be good at splatoon 3. there is no transition point between playing like a sociopath in the plus server and learning splatoon.
08.04.2024 01:06 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0rather than working the map to then take and win a good fight--or even forcing a full-team retreat--for most players, the game is now just about getting your magic juice and off you go, taking coinflip (or worse) fights until eventually one team screws up their cooler.
08.04.2024 01:05 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0you can have a technique-heavy game that also teaches you positioning at both an individual and team level (in fact most good shooter games are like this). splatoon 3 has done away with this with cooler, tiny maps, and not resolving long-standing imbalances between long and short ranged weapons.
08.04.2024 01:03 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I think most people know that the game's very technique-heavy at the moment (and since cooler gives you god movement even if you have arthritis, technique-heavy just means aim).
the flip side to this is that the positional part of splatoon is incredibly difficult to learn in the game.
this is more of an oceanic problem, but playing in oce tournaments, I'm worried that the lack of exposure to high level gameplay means it's basically impossible to get good at splatoon 3
and I don't just mean matchmaking; even when you get jp games, it's clear there's been a brain drain there too
of course, this is one of the many reasons why cooler's such a problem. there will always be a small number of good choices, while making other weapons unpickable.

dapple is trolling
h3 is trolling (but at least you have sensors)
zap is nice for the bomb, but edit and pencil have more utility as main weapons (and I've explained the friction you get with zap elsewhere in the thread)
dynamo is ok on like... flounder? humpback?
as for, say, mincemeat zones: pencil does compress zone camping and cooler spam nicely into a single slot on your team, for sure. but even so, it's far easier to exploit an afk pencil than a team playing more actively around something like an edit.
... assuming of course teams are playing actively.
if you have an insane charger player who can consistently hit 4 out of 5 shots in a burst, then you can pick pencil. but even they should have edit on deck for the maps where a more aggressive approach is warranted.
very few players know how to handle chargers. fewer still know how to handle edit.
I think it's critical that every top team's cooler player has a solid edit in their back pocket for all four modes. I'd go as far as saying that for the vast majority of players and teams, edit is strictly the best choice in all maps and modes.
