30.11.2025 15:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks. I will leave it to marinade for a few weeks but having a jar of instant coleslaw over Christmas is very appealing. You could make it with fennel instead of cabbage....?
30.11.2025 14:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A few jars of 'Carolina' Coleslaw heading to the pantry. This batch was shredded green/red cabbage, carrots, onions, celery seeds, mustard seeds, cider vinegar & sugar (unrefined). I can either eat it as pickled veg or strain & add mayonnaise. Basic recipe:

Still plenty of haws in our tall hedges to keep the wild birds fed

29.11.2025 18:31 β π 23 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Bought a small potted Nordman Fir Christmas tree from @DigbyFarm North Luffenham, Rutland. Very good selection available but quite busy already. I will plant this treasure out after Candlemas to let it get as big as it likes. Previous planted trees are loved by the goldcrestsπ

27.11.2025 17:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0that's just like me! I always order too many. Now I have to work out where to put them...
27.11.2025 17:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The first of this year's bare-root fruit trees have arrived. An apple & a pear from Walcot Organic Nursery. Every year I buy a tree or five to add to the orchard. ππππ±
27.11.2025 14:12 β π 35 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0A slice of the black pudding went very well with a pork & bean casserole & baked potato.
26.11.2025 22:51 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0it does divide opinion but I think that is mostly because poor black pudding used to be too common (& nasty). This stuff is superb though I have had great Scottish puddings too in Orkney & in Lewis. It is good with breakfast, crumbled in casseroles & with cauliflower cheese. π
