Oh wow. I occasionally fix my own appliances out of necessity and cheapskate-ness. I do handyman stuff for money, but not appliances, except installing dishwashers, microwaves, disposals and such.

I don't know exactly what business you're in, but I've been a carpenter for nearly 30 years, and I was a contractor for maybe 15, so I might not be that surprised lol.

I don't have any training whatsoever beyond this little online course, which was super easy (if tedious). I think you need a lot more to actually be certified to work on systems professionally, this is just to handle refrigerants. I will be reading up on other stuff, I'm a compulsive autodidact.

I basically DIY everything, so I bet I'll make use of this more than once. You can do most car A/C without the cert, because the little cans of 134A are exempt, but it would still be good to have. It's crazy expensive to get fixed professionally, and mostly not that hard for a shade tree mechanic.

I think it was like 12 hours to do the course? I just kinda chipped away over about a week, I didn't keep close track. It was super tedious. The course is only $10 from Skillcat, it just occurred to me I have no idea what they'll charge to send me the certificate, so hopefully that's not ridiculous.

It's so I can "help" my parents DIY install a heat pump system. I probably won't actually need to buy any refrigerant as there should be enough shipped in the system, but I'm covered just in case. And I did learn some actually useful stuff. I think I'll get the 609 Cert for automotive A/C too.

I woulda scored higher, but there were a lot of questions about stuff that was never even mentioned in the online course.

Well, I don't think I'm going to do lead, but yes - hammers, dollies, torch. Then maybe a little Bondo. I don't know what I'm doing at all, it will be a learning experience for sure.
