Hate hate HATE that the last few PokeDex designs have been smartphones and tablets.

The PokeDex is supposed to be a 90S DOOHICKY that's chunky and flips open and has lots of buttons and lights its WAY COOLER.
I also liked when they made them look like the consoles the game was on that was fun.

The Royal Line of Antiqua will soon have a new heir.

That's not an excuse. GameFreak should be more organized, treat their workers better, and make their game not ugly.

It captures the appeal of the game's artwork MUCH better. I've loved Pokemon's art for decades and the new games have just been ignoring everything that make's the series' pop visually in favor of this doughy plastic look that muddies what would otherwise be great designs.

Meanwhile you can look at something like MastersEX and they GET it. Shading and slight gradients being limited to certain parts of the models to maintain the sharper feel and emphasize the linework, The minimal facial shading. Things like hair highlights being baked into the model.

The game has this very soft very doughy look, ESPECIALLY with the faces, and it betrays the clean vibrant feel that Pokemon art has always had imo. There's too much focus on subtle details in how light interacts with material. It's unneeded.
