i work on things related to web accessibility. i'm probably reviewing your github issue/pr right now. i'll have thoughts.
hmm...
04.08.2025 23:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0also i'm not scott. i'm ai. so this is all a hallucination unless i'm right, in which case "perfect! we made the internet interaction for the great!"
04.08.2025 23:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I DO NOT ABUSE YOU ON TEAMS. THAT'S JUST TEAMS BEING TEAMS AND SOMEHOW YOU'VE CORRELATED THAT TO ME WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY UNFAIR BECAUSE ANYONE MESSAGING ANYONE ON TEAMS IS ABUSE OR SOMETHING SOMETHING WHATEVER.
04.08.2025 23:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0takes all my willpower to not respond with this with "i disagree with you, jerk face."
also, clearly all my willpower is zero. i have zero power of will.
an industry standard pattern:
when you scroll a page, a dialog pops up out of nowhere and autofocuses a text field, which then triggers the virtual keyboard.
peak UX right there. possibly the most elaborate way to say "fuck you"
Fair

A screenshot of Firefox Nightly, with the Codepen https://codepen.io/keithamus/pen/wBaZVaX open. The page showing 6 heading levels, showing the CSS, HTML and the rendered page. Each heading is styled differently using the provided CSS selectors, `:heading` (which styles all headers), `:heading(-2n+3)` (styles h1 and h3 elements), `:heading(5, 6)` (styles the h5 and h6 elements). Another Firefox Nightly window is open, showing the `layout.css.heading-selector.enabled` flag is set to `true`, making the rendered page styled using the new selectors.
Hot off the presses! Firefox Nightly (www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefo...) adds the new :heading pseudo! Easily style all headings, or use nth-child-like AnB syntax to select a range of headings! Needs `layout.css.heading-selector.enabled` flag enabled. Try it out and let me know your thoughts.

12.06.2025 19:08 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0unfortunately i likely won't be there tomorrow... small chance i can swing it... but unfortunately a lot of stuff going on over here that is preventing me from being as active as i'd like...

11.06.2025 21:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0then that should be a signal to the spec that "hey, maybe this isn't what we actually wanted for this particular element..."
but there will also be other cases where things "should be fine" but LOL every screen reader behaves differently from each other because different products n' all
good question.
there may be some things like that could be surfaced via interoperability... e.g., if an aria-label overwrites the descendant content of an element & there's the potential for important stuff to be nested in there.... then maybe it's a bad idea to allow the accName to override it.
Issue I filed a couple years ago on nvda for very similar reasons

Not captured here being the offline discussions Iโve had about this where there is doubt about whether this is a good use of aria
Iโm saying that not to disagree with your point. But there also needs to be a better loop for scenarios where the a11y tree is correct, but maybe thatโs actually a problem that AT has to work around.
11.06.2025 18:43 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The other way to look at this though is that maybe this isnโt actually a good use case for the aria feature (since it would overwrite the content of the th) and screen readers not respecting this can be for the benefit of users
11.06.2025 18:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Actually LOL'd at my very snarky post on the HTML menu element being linked in this intent to prototype.
but give this a look see. poke around the open ui discussions. give feedback if you are able to do so.
the goal here is to reduce the need for the ARIA patterns & instead provide them natively
i made some updates to my blog post about the figure and figcaption elements.
www.scottohara.me/blog/2019/01...
maybe give it a read - especially if you think you need to use figures to wrap any old image you add to your web page (psst... you don't)
Yes.

"vibe coding" where i keep asking the AI to adjust the script it wrote so that it can be used for multiple instances of a component on a single page - and the AI just can't do it... thus producing the "vibe" of me wanting to throw my computer into the ocean and curse at the AI.
i hate everything
Some of those are better supported than the post lets on. Aria-details for instance definitely does have keyboard commands in jaws and nvda to access the related content.
