I don't see it as a personal failing of anyone, including myself. Obama had what you're referring to--but he had other key attributes too, such as knowledge, seriousness, depth of character. People that I knew liked F *only* for his style/attractiveness/etc.

The lesson for me--about which others might disagree--is that I should have discounted the policy-preferences point somewhat, & I may in the future. That *might* have moved me in the Lamb corner if I were still a Pa. voter. I should have figured in what I observed: F's relative lack of seriousness.

the primary b/c I thought him the candidate whose expressed views I liked best. Yet in every interview I found him somewhat uninformed, at times even shallow. Not unprincipled, but not serious enough to have thought through what he believes. I'm embarrassed now to admit it. Lesson learned perhaps.

Some people I know supported Fetterman b/c they viewed him as *cool* (even attractive in his own way). The whole thing about his appearance and disregard for convention. I thought then (and now) that that's a very poor reason to support a candidate (or elected official). But I wanted him to win ...

With the outstanding teamwork with Brendan Benedict and Michael Altebrando, @evanbernick.bsky.social & I proudly filed this originalist amicus brief defending birthright citizenship in Trump v. Barbara:

Agree. But not clear to me why last argument of brief #2 is posited as only *reinforcing* the 14A's meaning, rather than being set forth much earlier as fundamental. To me, the heading & placement of the last argument gives it JV status. Also, who, exactly, is the "us" that ends the brief?

I cannot think of a reason that an older judge would be less likely to issue a clear and urgent opinion than would a younger one.

Good article. The author begins by saying she's gonna be attending her 50th Bruce concert soon. Good for her. I tooled around for tickets a few days ago, checking out many tour venues. Even the cheapest seats are unaffordable for almost everyone--certainly for the people Bruce writes about.

One thing to understand is that jackasses like me graduated from law school basically believing that, while nothing like <all this> was realistic in our lifetimes, if it did happen, then our Supreme Court with all its flaws would respond roughly like this judge did, maybe 9-0.
