Haven't tested any other distro at the moment, but trying the latest Ubuntu version from a live environment seems to detect my Wi-Fi adapter fine.

Maybe it was just this one update? idk. I'll probably continue testing it before bed.

Like what, a phone hotspot? I don't have one.

I've already shut it off and back on again. All I know is that both times Ubuntu couldn't seem to find my Wi-Fi adapter, and almost everything I can find online says, "well maybe just download the right drivers using that ETHERNET you totally have."

I've now run into an issue twice on Ubuntu where restarting my computer for some update or whatever has made me unable to connect to the Internet.

Always remember to keep backups, folks.

Using Obsidian Bases has shown me just how powerful leaving the "organization" up to arbitrary, user-defined metadata can be.

Ugh, now I wanna make some kind of task/project management system based on those ideas.

behated is a new one :O

if "beloved" can be a word then so can "behated"... (though I personally lean toward "beloathed")

Support for Canvas in Obsidian Publish has been on the roadmap for a while now iirc.

This is Anytype, correct? Your graph is looking pretty good so far, so I'm happy it's working out for you :3

A look at the Twitter account suggests it's more of a rich-text WYSIWYG deal, so definitely not markdown.

It allows for more formatting options ig, though I don't know how to feel about it.

These are unfortunately unable to be answered until the app releases and development happens.

I might try to send the creator a message, but I don't know if he'll respond. I'd imagine there's tradeoffs to switching away from Obsidian into this, so we'll see.

I literally sent you stuff about Thymer not too long ago </3

Anyhow, the realtime collaboration is interesting. I think my major questions still remaining are:

- is it using markdown?
- how much will it cost?
- will it push for generative AI features where it's unneeded?

Even so, it seems like they plan to be similar to Obsidian by offering people the ability to make their own plugins using JavaScript.

I don't know how extensive the plugin ecosystem will be, but that seems kind of cool.

It's not even out for public use yet, so I don't know. I can only hope they're open source, but we won't know until they make their first public release.

Ejectable Apps

If you want to look into it yourself, here's some links:

- Thymer's cloud philosophy: thymer.com/ejectable
- Thymer's official website: thymer.com

And if I'm not mistaken, Thymer will be local-first, so if cloud syncing isn't your jam, everything can be done locally.

17.11.2025 18:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The idea to their approach is that Thymer will offer an official cloud solution, but the binaries needed to run the backend cloud services will be open so people can self-host or use alternative providers.

You can export all of your data to and from the official service, and it'll work fine.

Thymer seems like a very interesting upcoming app for PKM. I'm unsure if I'll end up using it, or if it even really gets popular, but I do like its philosophy around ensuring user control over their data while offering cloud services.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll be great for getting your ideas out there.

Interesting conversations to be had, and I'm sure it'll inspire others to make cool stuff as well :3

What language are you learning? I've wanted to start writing notes about other languages in my vault, but I haven't really gotten around to it yet.

That and I'm still not quite sure how I want to do that. Maybe I'll start in a separate vault to keep things uncluttered for the time being.

17.11.2025 17:39 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Though I suppose my desire for better organization features is that I'm a power user, and my desired style for approaching organization would be applying arbitrary metadata to stuff like I can with markdown notes.

I'd imagine that gets tricky really quickly with non-markdown files :<

I'm loving @ente.io but I can't help but feel it won't be particularly revolutionary for me in how I organize my photos.

It's great to have a privacy focused app to begin with, but I'm curious to see how they might approach image organization features in the future.

We'll have to see...

Fr, though I imagine some people think it can be with the whole "second brain/do EVERYTHING in Obsidian" approach many in the community have.

17.11.2025 01:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yeah, it's a lot easier and straightforward than I initially thought it would be. I can't help but be worried about external support thoughโ€”Linux can't really succeed if nobody decides to make their shit compatible with it.

I can only hope Valve's support for Linux is a sign at its future success..

17.11.2025 01:12 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

True, a lot of the learning curve is learning to curb the desire to make it more complex than it needs to be.

Still, it seems like a common issue in the community to be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of possibilities. Mindset can make learning it quite hard.
