Having been goaded into it by @maxrushden.bsky.social, I am doing the London Landmarks half-marathon in April for Great Ormond Street Children's Charity. I am 52, overweight, hideously unfit and I hate running. Please donate, if you can spare a few quid ...

Continuing my tour of books I should have already read, Calling Bullshit by @carlbergstrom.com and @jevinwest.bsky.social. Just a delight - an accessible, entertaining, insightful look at various forms of BS. Much like Weapons of Math Destruction, would love a 2025 update of this one.

The freedom offered by liberal democracy makes room for basement dwelling incels to seethe and see conspiracies everywhere. What it doesn't have a defence against is a class of career politicians, weaponizing such fringe neuroses, and then making them mainstream, while knowing they are total BS.

Poster showing a pink/red octopus with a cute face. The background is a white and blue water cartoon-like graphic. The text reads: Would you walk away from Omelas? An Ursula Le Guin Themed Creative Writing Workshop, 11th October, 4 pm, online. In this workshop, led by science fiction writer, poet, and philosophy lecturer Dr Rachel Handley, you will be invited to explore Le Guin's short stories and related themes. There will be opportunities to respond to writing prompts based on Le Guin's and other's work throughout the workshop. The workshop will be very interactive, and writers at all levels are very welcome to attend. You'll also have the chance to read out what you've written during the workshop.

Adam, everyone is bending over backwards to pander to this awful manbaby because he is in control of one of our most important alliances. They will be more relieved than you are when he departs smiling and happy and thinking everyone admires him. They are the one's holding their noses.

Mural by JDL Street Art in Roubaix, Lille, France, depicting the Statue of Liberty covering her face with both hands in a gesture of shame. The figure is painted in shades of grey with teal accents on the torch and crown, set against a muted background with a golden halo-like circle. The artwork spans the side of a tall brick building, contrasting modern street art with historic European architecture in the surrounding cityscape.

Your views are valid, but they carry no more weight than anyone else's.
This may be the hard part of liberal democracy - which is the least worst system of governance we have ever seen ๐Ÿ‘
