Underrated pro of non-academic work is that I can get a result, tell people about it, and then move on to the next thing.

Compared to writing a paper, months of reviews, and half a year of desperately promoting said result + myself online and in person. I loved it! But its a nice change when busy.

Left the field for this reason - wanted to stay where I was, so it was time to go 🙃

Its completely unreal. Mark McCaughrean casually whipped it out on his laptop at the post-graduation drinks in Leiden last week and everybody was clustered around it. Gonna remember that moment for a while.

It sucks to be learning this lesson this late but having an "I'm leaving the field in 2 weeks" deadline really helps with just throwing out ideas you're proud of in order to get a paper to publication.
