Nope. Its not about one idiot with a really big pick up. This trend is sadly showing in the number of deaths caused by cars.

Sad to say that cycling deaths caused by cars is up actually in the Netherlands.
Also in Europe cars are getting bigger with less sight below regular car hight. Monstertrucks are killing more and more Dutch people.

The car industry can see cycling for what it is to them: competition.
If you finance local and national politicians as well as media to focus on the danger and childish nature of cycling you will keep on selling cars.
Otherwise more people will buy a bycicle and just have one car per household.

Well if there is no one to check IF they have a licence that is not really going to cut it in busy Amsterdam.
So a lot of drivers just do as they please, signs or not. Also traffic signs can be elaborate in Amsterdam. They become meaningless when the re are a lot of them with many diffrent messages.
