It's not over yet - Riggs is appealing the decision. Mind you, that appeal goes to the NC SC, which has a 5-2 Republican majority. And Riggs is one of the two Democrats & has recused herself.

Then there's the 15 day ballot cure window. That'll be a thing.

Most NCSC justices are up for reelection in 2028 or 2030. Those races start the moment they decide whether to defend the right to vote. This is the long game, folks: Either these justices follow the law, or we hound them with public shame for what will be the longest years of their judicial careers.
