i always found fathers boring in fiction, so this explains why i was so interested in vampire procreation (which i think is inherently incestuous but that's a take for s whole other thread) without even realising it...

and because vampires have one parent/maker, i would say this parent is a mother, because of the mechanics of vampire birth (they give life from their bodies, nurturing orally) and just thematically

okay wow, i haven't thought about it that way (because i *was* hit on the head with the mayfair lore and had a hard time recovering from it tbh), but it makes so much sense... overall i think figure of the mother is so important for TVC (including everything about akasha)

oh yeah, i agree... there are a few moments that i really need them to show with care... i was just honestly surprised that people would make definitive statements based on a montage of random scenes that wouldn't even be in the show for sure 😭

everything makes sense, thank you for sharing!! i agree that it's very hard to adapt this as a tv show... AR's work with POVs is constant and very hard to translate to a medium that has an impassive camera, but they're trying really hard and often succeeding 🥲

yes, i totally agree! i think grooming is a word with different connotations that isn't very true here. it's more about protecting on her part, and she eventually stops encouraging this dynamic after her turning, because now she can assert herself on her own, she doesn't need lestat to do it

ending notes: lestat is a victim of sexualised violence, he's not a "perfect victim", because this is a show that doesn't deal in black and white thinking. dismissing gab's incest just because you like her more than lestat is a little weird, because it's an important part of her characterisation

i really like that the show is problematising things that weren't properly addressed in the text, like marius' grooming and now gab's too, i hope. both of them exist mainly inside narratives told by the victims, and both lestat and armand tend to dismiss any violence done to them by parental figures
