tumblr text post from user @coldeveryseason: happy valentine's day!! since today's a day all about love, this is an early interest check for a jacob anderson appreciation week and a delainey hayles appreciation week that @reticentvampyr and i are planning for sometime this spring/early summer. we wanted to share our love for jacob and delainey and their phenomenal performances as louis and claudia that introduced them to many of us, and express our support for them as black artists on the rise- so each week we'll have some prompts related to jacob and delainey's respective work and careers and a fundraiser for a charity/community aid cause. kam, the admin for dailyraleighr on twitter, ran an amazing fundraiser last year to celebrate jacob's birthday and we were really inspired by that. the most important question we're working on rn is which charities should we feature for these events?? some possibilities we're considering are support networks for black dv survivors like sistah space, the khartoum aid kitchen, or other targeted support for black survivors of systemic and domestic violence, like black queer support networks or featuring mutual aid requests from afro-palestinians trying to survive genocide. if you have specific suggestions we'd love to hear them.

and i love that!! i love connecting with people with wildly different opinions, i would just also love if everyone could be less defensive about them. it's really frustrating to me personally, because i'm bad at social interactions as it is even without misplaced social cues 😭

well, i guess someone could argue with literally anything, but not like we can stop it. we collectively got so used to the prospect of cyber bullying that it makes us selfcensor in weird ways... i understand this urge, but i think it's a bit dishonest and just works against anyone's statements

who is this speech intended to? is it only for followers/mutuals or whoever? i see how objectivity can be some sort of an armour against the general public, but it just makes the original statement open to critique; you won't argue with what someone feels, only with what someone thinks

you're right, and i think the main appeal and the main problem with speech on social media is that here the line between private and public is blurred. you're writing something in YOUR account, but it's a space open to the general public, so you're expecting a response, right?

overall, i wanted to respond, because i noticed a lot of hierarchical thinking patterns in fandom spaces lately, and i think that the fight of good/bad art is as stupid as the whole "problematic" discourse. just admit you are a hater! you don't need to justify it! feelings don't care about facts

so, to the original point – where is this need to deem everything you personally don't like as bad art is coming from? because it really is a slippery slope of creating a new canon of Good queer media, which won't help anyone. please, critique, hate, etc. but why argue with other people's feelings?

proving that it's Good wouldn't work as much as proving it's Bad. it's objectively important and interesting as a piece of queer media with a main russian character, i can already see how it's impacting the popular culture discourse, but it doesn't make the show Good objectively. and it's fine!

if something works, it works. your enjoyment isn't objective. your dislike isn't either.

circling back to HR – i highly doubt that people who say it's a good show think that it's Good Art. they say they like it, that it's a good work in the romance genre, that it made them happy or it made them cry
