Our findings show that global methane abatement yields large net economic benefits. Achieving the Global Methane Pledge results in more than $1 trillion in annual avoided market damages by 2050. Benefits are greater in lower-income countries because of their higher vulnerability to climate change. Methane action also reduces climate risk, including the likelihood and severity of extreme damage outcomes (climate tail risk). It lowers the intensity of several key tipping points: For example, by 2050, the likelihood of Amazon rainforest dieback drops by 8% and Indian monsoon disruption by 13%. Even using conservative assumptions about costs, the benefit-cost ratio of methane action is at least threeโ€”rising to more than six when health cobenefits are included.

Thank you @mehr.nz for your continued mahi in raising this issue over and over again! Correct diagnosis, the government from the PM down are batshit crazy and totally scientifically illiterate.

I've been fortunate enough to work with MOFs and macrocycles and know of Richard's brilliance in both fields! Still have a soft-spot for the Robson macrocyles and Schiff-base ligands!

Here's an example from my PhD inspired by Robson's earlier work:

They dismissed the advice of the Clinate Commission because they didn't want to hear it and then created another panel to deliver what they wanted... the chair of that panel, Prof. Nicola Shadbolt (Massey Uni), is an elected director of Fonterra Cooperative! Independent?

How independent is that?

"Farmer lobby groups have welcomed the change, while Watts said the new targets were based on the latest available science and the findings of the independent Methane Science Review released in 2024."

The panel was selected by the government, youโ€™ve got to question their independence! #bollocks

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

โ€œIn Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.โ€

It costs a lot less to house people.

The Cato Institute hardly is a lefty organization. The liberal think tank shows that despite the narrative of Trump and co, political murders are NOT a lefty phenomenon. Such rhetoric only inflames societal unrest in the US and would be welcome news to the adversaries of the US.
