Taken from reddit. But this Galway commuter has tracked their rainy days while cycling! Very interesting, and as an ex Galway commuter myself, id believe it. I would say 1/5 days required rain gear.

It’s so funny to think about the fact that there’s people out there deferring every life decision to this

I am reminded of the words uttered by a Giro cycle helmet designer in an interview with Carlton Reid in Forbes journal:
β€œWe do not design helmets specifically to reduce chances or severity of injury when impacts involve a car,” said Richter.

Another example of #HiVisFail for our government in #Ireland intent on mandatory hivis & helmet wearing for all bike users.

Infuriating! Make cycling safer by preventing vehicles from crashing into them, not by policing what they wear.

I have no words for this absolute disaster. There's so much research showing this kinda step doesn't work re safety, and will destroy any chance of getting people on bikes and will end city bikes of any description #speirgorm #ireland #cycling #cyclists

What a wildly stupid idea.

Mandatory helmets and high viz is a proven remedy to reduce the number of people cycling. It effectively kills off things like Dublin Bikes.

That's why no other EU country does anything like this. Pure madness.

Agreed. Following Beaumont Dr's with expertise in head trauma advice on transport policy, despite their vast knowledge, isn't right. They're subject to a sampling bias based on the v tough cases they deal with.

There's going to be a lot of people quoting flawed research that apparently supports helmet wearing using wild percentages, but it's been shown to be low quality research and for ethical and/or resource issues will such.

Meanwhile, higher quality research and looking at the wider picture...

Helmets and hi-vis clothing to be made mandatory for e-bikes and e-scooter users Cabinet will sign off on plans to explicitly ban the use of scramblers on roads this morning.

And there we have it folks, having failed to do anything to halt the injury and death toll on our roads the government now plans to criminalise cycling.

This will kill bike share schemes around the country. @bleeperactive.bsky.social

The Irish Cycling Campaign will be appearing before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport today.
The focus today is on Road Safety.
We look forward to discussing the importance of a public health-led, safe systems approach to road danger reduction.

I'd add:
Cleaning the buses (they're filthy)
Ventilation, probably not solvable on the existing fleet but newer buses.
Remove taxis from bus lanes

High Court action against legal fees cap expected Minister for Environment wants to cap State legal payments to €65,805

1400 submissions on the JR costs cap & the majority appear to be questioning the legal validity of this.

But instead of, you know, actually listening to the public, instead the Gov is said to be 'bracing for a legal challenge'. How about they just don't do it?!

Unfortunately it's true. Framing collisions and road deaths as accidents can remove the agency from the people who are responsible, those who chose to distract themselves or drive drunk or speed etc.

Ms Good was also a wife, mother, widow of a USAF veteran, past visitor to the north of Ireland as a young missionary for peace, and more.
A masked man with a gun and uniform decided to execute her in an instant, believing that he could kill her with impunity.
