A few days ago, I reveled in the view of DC from my window seat as we landed at DCA. From that place, I felt Hope in the dark and posted my first photo on @bluesky. Tonight, rescuers are searching for survivors of a crash in the Potomac.

Prayers and shared sorrow for all those affected.

I don't live in the land of either/or. And the land of tone policing is online in liberal spaces. Watch it play out together with my Latino family members as their eyes roll way back and yes, they know all about ICE raids. All about it. And worse.

This is the kind of condescension that had people vote for him in protest. Matt didn't say "ease up on fascism." He said ease up on language policing, virtue signaling and intractability. My Salvadoran family members find this annoying and feel condescended to. I learned this the hard way.

Same as always. Some will get it, some will never get it and then there people in between on that spectrum. Virtue shaming and condescension tends to entrench people, humor sometimes works. People of color in my fam say progressive virtue signaling can be more irritating as they feel used.

I've been spending the weekend with my grandchildren.

We've baked, made art, done cool science experiments, played at the park, made up silly songs, built unicorn and dinosaur villages, read stories.

My country feels surreal and then there's these little beacons of hope. I am so grateful for them

I always sit on the aisle seat on my flights. This morning, I sat by the window. I forgot how much I loved looking at cloud pillows and daydreaming. DC is beautiful at 5,000. From up here, it feels less dire as if the values & ideas that shaped this nation will outlast what's happening below.
