I have lived here for most of my 76 years and we have a few oooooold church sites that had small (no more than 100 plots) graveyards.
My wife and daughter like to visit old graveyards.

I suspect that most Americans do not believe that they are qualified to do their own research and rely on those with expertise in those scientific areas to explain and advise. Here, I mean research as in unbiased examination of validated data collections, not simply googling for random opinion.
