In The Knight Before Christmas, the romance feels different: Brooke is not waiting to be saved, and the two leads are not “destined”. That is both refreshing and part of why the film feels light.

Heist films rely on misdirection, but The Art of the Steal crosses a line for me.
There is a difference between withholding information and showing scenes that never actually happened.
If the viewer cannot trust what they see, the whole story starts to feel unstable.
Still thinking about Yesterday: the more I reflect on it, the more the story feels built on shortcuts. Big emotional moments rely on convenience, not character growth. That weakens the romance at the core of the film.

I went into Yesterday expecting a clever idea about music. What I found instead was a romance driven by a main character whose selfishness makes him harder and harder to support as the film goes on.
