The Pink Panther (2006) A comedy that misreads its own humour and sabotages its best narrative strengths.

The Pink Panther offers a promising crime comedy setup, but its humour choices and character logic wear thin quickly, making the viewing experience frustrating. My full review considers why it struggles to deliver on its own premise.

In Your Dreams (2025) A nostalgic dream adventure with strong ideas, softened by convenient storytelling.

In In Your Dreams, every character has a clear motivation, even the purported villain, which gives the film emotional grounding that many animated films lack.

In Your Dreams (2025) A nostalgic dream adventure with strong ideas, softened by convenient storytelling.

In Your Dreams blends 90s style adventure energy, relatable nightmare sequences and heartfelt family themes, but some narrative shortcuts prevent it from rising above simple entertainment.

The Knight Before Christmas (2019) When a medieval quest meets modern love: fresh twists on classic romance tropes.

In The Knight Before Christmas, the romance feels different: Brooke is not waiting to be saved, and the two leads are not β€œdestined”. That is both refreshing and part of why the film feels light.

The Knight Before Christmas (2019) When a medieval quest meets modern love: fresh twists on classic romance tropes.

The Knight Before Christmas plays with a strong idea: a medieval knight on a quest in the modern world β€” but the quest itself feels unclear and underused. That weakens what could have driven the story.

The Knight Before Christmas (2019) When a medieval quest meets modern love: fresh twists on classic romance tropes.

A knight from the 1300s in the present, a quest that’s vague, and a romance that surprises. β€œThe Knight Before Christmas” is charming, fresh, and not quite what I expected. My evening notes on it: eveningnotes.substack.com/p/the-knight...

Picture of the film cast.

Picture of the film cast.

Heist films rely on misdirection, but The Art of the Steal crosses a line for me.
There is a difference between withholding information and showing scenes that never actually happened.
If the viewer cannot trust what they see, the whole story starts to feel unstable.

Yesterday (2019) A love story carried by famous songs, and not much else.

Still thinking about Yesterday: the more I reflect on it, the more the story feels built on shortcuts. Big emotional moments rely on convenience, not character growth. That weakens the romance at the core of the film.

Yesterday (2019) A love story carried by famous songs, and not much else.

I went into Yesterday expecting a clever idea about music. What I found instead was a romance driven by a main character whose selfishness makes him harder and harder to support as the film goes on.

Yesterday (2019) A love story carried by famous songs, and not much else.

What if the Beatles never existed and someone took their songs for fame? Yesterday has all the hits, but is the romance worth it? I watched the film and analyzed it. My evening notes on it: eveningnotes.substack.com/p/yesterday-...

The Noel Diary (2022) A tender Christmas romance that finds hope in what it does not quite show.

A Christmas romance that promises warmth but does it deliver? I watched The Noel Diary and explored what makes it sweet, what feels predictable, and what surprises appear along the way. What stayed with me: eveningnotes.substack.com/p/the-noel-d...

Love Hard (2021) A Christmas romcom that was nicer than expected, and a little sadder afterward.

A small Christmas romcom that left me feeling warmer, and a little sadder.
