We were.
Though I got home rather later than anticipated, I did so safe and sound, and am thankful for that. Having seen the scene of the crash, hope those involved were OK.

Iβve got an EV, but it was definitely a βswitch off engineβ situation anyway.

09.03.2026 19:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Have reached the point where people are going off to stretch their legs (or nip to the loo down the bank by the hard shoulder). A man in a van ahead put a drone up a while ago. Not sure what he saw, if anything, but he gave us all a sad shake of the head.
09.03.2026 19:02 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0Public service announcement: the M11 southbound is closed. Like, very closed. As in a carpark. Been sat here for an hour already.

09.03.2026 08:42 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think the βfeat.β Is doing a lot of work here. Having sat through their INTERMINABLE contest just to watch that song, it frankly sounded like heβd just sent her a voicenote.
07.03.2026 08:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0With huge irony, #WorldBookDay is the first day in quite some time on which I have NOT been working on my book, and instead getting on with my day job. But yesterday we had a meeting about publicity and I must say Iβm SO looking forward to spamming all of your timelines with incessant promotion.

This afternoon I completed the last section of my book- the poignant bit that rounds off the historical narrative. Iβd left it unfinished because I wanted it to be the last bit I did.
I wrote it on the sofa, my husband watching TV beside me and the cats playing on the carpet.
It was a lovely day.
Now, if the world could just indulge me by not actually destroying itself before publication, thatβd be grand.

Having gone βout outβ on a Saturday night for the first time in ages to go to two - TWO! - lovely birthday parties up in London, I could have done without my car tyre bursting on a random side street. Several hours and quite a few quid later, I got home at 4am.
But the parties were FAB!
Can confirm that the cake at this party is absolutely astonishing

Oh no!
Iβm frankly still in shock at that unbelievable creation.
And regretting giving up cake for Lentβ¦

Sacrilege! Treason!
(And Iβve chosen the wrong year to have given up cake for Lentβ¦)
At a friendβs birthday party and THIS is the cake.
Iβm pretty speechless.
Bar. Raised.

OMG - I can feel the anxiety rising as I start to imagine the many ways in which an ordinary day can suddenly turn into a real-life episode of Casualty.
Deadly bee-sting on a towpath anyone?
Yes. The abdication crisis was one, because it raised fundamental questions of the Monarch's willingness to accept formal advice tendered by their ministers. Had the King dug in and rejected it, they were clear they would resign. Instead, he did. That resolved the crisis, but it certainly was one.
20.02.2026 14:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There might be some constitutional *questions* down the line. Some I can think of involve the gathering or giving of evidence from the Royal Household, determining the status Andrew had when acting as Trade Envoy, and so on. But this is not a "constitutional crisis".
20.02.2026 10:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If this results in a trial, there will much comment about the fact that legally the case will be the Crown vs Andrew - and thus the King prosecuting his brother. And were he convicted, yes he might end up in one of His Majesty's Prisons. But that doesn't raise any constitutional issues either.
20.02.2026 10:35 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Constitutional issues only arise if it were the Sovereign themself involved. As they are His Majesty's courts and the police are His Majesty's constabulary, it is somewhat tricky to proceed against a reigning sovereign. That might be counted a constitutional crisis. But Andrew is not the King.
20.02.2026 10:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It might be a "crisis for the Royal Family", but there are no real constitutional issues at stake. The legal process can and will proceed in exactly the same way as with any other suspect, just as with Princess Anne, who was convicted of a criminal offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act in 2002.

I'm somewhat puzzled by the insistence of several news outlets on describing the arrest of Andrew M-W as a "Constitutional Crisis" (and even the worst such in a century).
With all the authority I can muster as a constitutional geek, let me just say - it's not a constitutional crisis.

I used to think the number one rule of local doorstep campaigning should be: always close the gate.
Seriously.
Quite the day to be having lunch with Andrew Lownie, author of βEntitledβ, last yearβs astonishing book on the rise and fall of the former Duke and Duchess of York.
He says a sequel is, unsurprisingly, in the worksβ¦
Well, the lunch event I'm about to attend is either going to be EXTREMELY topical. Or cancelled.
We'll see.
Gosh.
