One of the things I miss most about academia is having students. Finally I have some of those academic vibes back with two students starting this week in my lab for the summer.

Seeing as it’s been a while: What are everyone’s favourite tips for helping new students settle into your lab?

Luckily my new townhouse came with an actual lawn and planting beds. My partner and I have been planting natives (and growing veggies) to try and encourage a balanced ecosystem. It can be done, most developers are just lazy and too cheap to add in a garden.

I have one at work but honestly never use it standing anymore. I find it too hard to type or write physical notes well.

The countdown is on until trouble 1 (Vex, tux girl) and trouble 2 (Trinket, ginger boy) finally join me in New Zealand. It’s been a long 2 years without them but they will be touching down in February from the UK and I cannot wait to boop their little noses again!

I mostly ditched the bad place a while ago, but it seems like things are getting going here, so here I am. I've been missing following my favourite sci comm people so I guess it’s time to find them here!

Extracellular Vesicles! They’re like tiny parcels of proteins, RNA and other stuff that cells send to one another as the ultimate form of cell communication. Hormones wish they could be so cool.
