of course this is all a little bit screwed lately because the School of the Art Institute infuriatingly laid off 3/5 of the Video Data Bank staff & subsumed VDB into the library Special Collections, so i imagine in-person access may have gotten more complicated, but the collection is still *amazing*

you can watch many Kevin Jerome Everson films in person through the Video Data Bank in Chicago, but if you or one of your collaborators are affiliated with one of the institutions listed you can watch most of the VDB collection online www.vdb.org/content/stre...

people sometimes assume i am a Monied Person (when i am *decidedly* not) because i travel a lot, but it's often because i am down to do shit like "train to bus to train to overnight at friend's house to bus" over a couple of days instead of one $$$$ 2 hour flight (also yes i am a sagittarius)

let no one doubt my commitment to cinema -- so i can do a fun film thing my new return travel plan is:
Chicago to Detroit by amtrak, Detroit over the border to Windsor by greyhound, then Windsor to Toronto by Via rail, crashing with a friend in Toronto, then from Toronto to Montreal by megabus
Zotero is primarily a citation/bibliography software, but i find it helpful for the web snapshot function to encourage me to engage with more longreads, & i use the paid version to sync the ~many hundreds of pdfs~ i'm reading (& my annotations) across all my devices
07.03.2026 17:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0something i've started doing is using Zotero (and a browser plugin) to keep track of / go back to / actually read the various longer posts/articles i encounter online that seem interesting, and i do think it's helping me to complete reading more pieces and auto-scroll less
07.03.2026 17:28 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0oh no even just this allusion makes me so sad! itβs like a world of perversion without perverts, which is to say, a goddamn travesty

went to a screening of Seduction: The Cruel Woman (1985) at @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social last night and wow wow wow, shoutout to @muscledistribution.bsky.social
fellow sickos, it's on criterion channel for now
i remember liking this one when i read it in maybe 2007, curious as to your thoughts!
06.03.2026 00:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0sometimes i feel like i would have been put on this earth to be a slutty genderqueer rick steves yet i was born too late, cursed to the utter indignity of social media
05.03.2026 22:52 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0oh Katie, i am so incredibly sorry. a family friend who might be helpful to talk to is sometimes in NY, iβll ask about where in the world she is at the moment. iβll be thinking of you and your family.
05.03.2026 22:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0had a funny miscommunication moment today regarding a pizza/salad situation wherein i very sincerely but perhaps obnoxiously went βohhhhhh you meant ranch for the PIZZA because we are in the MIDWESTβ
05.03.2026 20:44 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i think itβs always good to ask for clarification of an exact date/time with this, because iβve had there be confusion before with people interpreting βmoved upβ in opposite ways
04.03.2026 20:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yeah ignore the typo there's a lot of copy/pasting and chaotic reformatting involved in tracking these lol
04.03.2026 17:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i've been posting my reading logs over on an instagram story highlight (sidbranca) but oops haven't been posting them here, but if anyone is curious, here are the Things I Read Last Week

04.03.2026 02:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i do *not* have the disposition (or annoying editing style) for youtube, which does mean you all are deprived/spared my making videos of "what i packed personal item only for two and a half weeks of winter travel" etc, but if you do want a text/photo thread of such a thing i guess let me know lol
03.03.2026 22:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0sometimes i think about how little money i would need for my silly little life beyond rent, food, and medical care, if i simply had sponsorships from various rail companies and various bitter liqueurs

today's word problem is how to:
- stay in chicago until at least the morning of march 14 so i can participate in a very cool screening event on 3/13 (i'll post soon)
- be back in montreal some day/time before 11am 3/17
- spend *as little $ as possible* (but very willing to do utter nonsense)
one of those days where i have tabs open for Amtrak, Via Rail, Megabus (US & Canada), Flixbus, Greyhound, United, Air Canada, & maps while i figure out the cheapest possible way to get from one place to another within a specific couple of days
in a parallel universe i was a stunning travel blogger
the photograph seems like the wrong medium for this question tbh, because surely one needs to know the heft of the fork?
03.03.2026 20:21 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0at a loss of what to say that isnβt just like, grumbling expletives. sending your friends a good thought
03.03.2026 18:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0everything feels so early 2000s these days (incredibly derogatory), so i am trying to at least remain grateful for the many freedoms afforded by being in my late 30s this time around instead of 14-19 years old
03.03.2026 17:32 β π 18 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0when i canβt sleep i sometimes listen to the Ian McKellen audiobook of the Odyssey, i find the repetition of phrases and descriptions of wine pouring very lulling i guess?
