Every time you see a detailed breakdown of opinion poll demographics, the over-65s always have the worst, and most mean-spirited views on every subject. When people say that you become more right-wing as you age, they really mean 'spiteful'.

I think it is important to remember that if you had just one billion dollars left, you could literally live a lavish lifestyle beyond the dreams of many.

I once saw certain right wing positions sweepingly defined as "Imagining everyone is as as unpleasant as you secretly suspect yourself to be" - and while that's a huge generalisation, it does get to a truth about people being as good - or as bad - as you expect to find them.

On almost everything – fraud, polarisation, radicalisation, misinformation – evidence suggests that over 60s are in much more urgent need of online protection and education than teenagers.

But that issue gets zero political attention, and is a total non-starter. Nothing good will come of it.

I think it is the framing - it appears to mandate the understanding.

You should have to retake your driving test every 10 years. Would cut bad driving habits and keep people up to date with Highway Code changes. The demand for tests would create more jobs. The inevitable number of failures would force investment in better public transport.
