You can maaaaaaybe make a case for doing it with Churchill (problematic image aside) - but only because heโ€™s associated with national image and not exclusively the Conservative Party as Thatcher was.

Absolutely crazy.

Lol this is legit insane.

Can you imagine Margaret Thatcher at Conservative Party Conference in 1983 asking for cardboard cutouts of Stanley Baldwin to be displayed alongside glass cabinets filled with his old clothes.

You canโ€™t connect with voters by using someone who is dust.

Decided once I get my new place, instead of fitted wardrobes Iโ€™m going to invest more in the sofabed (probably below)โ€ฆ

Which means nobody shall be allowed to sit on itโ€ฆ Ever. It shall be a viewing sofabed only that people can admire from afar.

Whilst the unwanted deployment of a RAT inflight is not an emergency as such, they usually only deploy due to an emergency (electrical/hydraulic failure due to loss of engines).

Yeah you could make a decent go at it now due to the rise of grifter culture.

Loved Uncle Albert!

Alsoโ€ฆ another mention!

I made the point in my Masters thesis that you have the most popular British sitcom of the time mentioning it as something exotic and exciting over and over, when usually planes are considered dull and just a means to an end.

Then again, the popular culture evidence base is extremely strong.

It was mentioned in Only Fools and Horses across the series over four times!

Unfortunately a lot of my evidence base for my idea would rely on me doing interviews with former workers, crew etcโ€ฆ And they have an expiry date, especially since it is now 22 years since it was retired and 56 years since built ๐Ÿ˜ž

Haha everyone who worked on the project was extremely proud of the design overall - even though it failed to sell.

Lots of links to themes of British/French identity following the loss of superpower status etc.

My backup idea was looking at a principle I established in my Masters thesis that fans, passengers, crew see Concorde as more than a machine - a living thing. Then moving that concept into its wider applications for our relationship with technology and machines

06.10.2025 20:57 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh thereโ€™s lots of potential areas to focus on. Mine was going to look at what people working on the design and build thought Concordeโ€™s role would be in developing Britainโ€™s role on the world stage

06.10.2025 20:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The evidence base is also spectacularly large too and has a huge integration in our popular culture, but only specialists/Concorde nerds know that

06.10.2025 20:53 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

My main reason for doing it is to show a history of an aircraft is possible. During my Masters most the department, apart from my supervisor, warned against it thinking there would not be enough evidence to produce something on it.

But I knew there was something to be written

06.10.2025 20:53 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There is only really one clear funding area at York and they have the exact specialist Iโ€™d want to as a guide - a historian of modern technology. She loved my idea too ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Though Iโ€™m very clear about my idea, would not want changes to please people

06.10.2025 20:51 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yessss, York approved me but I didnโ€™t get the separate scholarship for it ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Was happy with my Masters on it though, but itโ€™ll always be a regret that I wasnโ€™t able to give it the justification it deserves but lacks in historiography.

Concordeโ€™s most frequent flyer was a businessman called Fred Finn.

Between 1976 and 2003 he flew on Concorde 718 times.

In one day he once managed to fly between London and New York three times within 12 hours.

Here he is pictured in front of Concorde, not showing off, with his Rolls-Royce.

Concorde fact of the day:

Taxiing from gate to runway, Concorde would burn four times more fuel than the average petrol car uses in a year.

Over one entire flight, it would burn through more fuel than one single car if running for 154 years.
