That’s because people either used to institutionalize (early 20th century) i.e. Rosemary Kennedy or abandon their autists in the forest prior to the 19th century. And somehow autists are “the monster” that destroys families? 🙄

02.03.2025 21:36 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Heather Watkin’s “site specific installation marked by shipping ink-soaked cotton cords suspended in a monumental arrangement…individual cords in her arrangement can be traced back to numerous past lifetimes of sculpture making. This particular artwork is a reverent display of her drive towards reimagination… At the core of her work is the mutable, transcendent essence of things.
Emily Katz’s “larger-than-life freehand embroidery on tulle conveying a figure composed of many disparate selves. Each fragment of the figure floats above the next, with each layer isolated as if upon a diaphanous cloud yet intrinsically tied to layers within.”
Amanda Wojick’s ‘Large Cutout, Pink and Orange’ “operat[ing] like open-ended puzzles that endlessly integrate the surrounding environment within the composition of the work…the opposing pink and orange sides are linked together by irregularly shaped tracks of painted color, passing through the opening, to reach the other side. Simultaneously commemorative and celebratory, the cutouts dance between painting and sculpture, the imaginary and real, and abstractions and the everyday.”
Kirsten Bauer’s ‘Cinnamon Spice’ is a glossy, vermilion apple, offered like a riddle that can’t quite be solved. It is a moment of magic, a prompt for pause and puzzlement. The small ripe fruit is ornamented with a humble twig the artist collected, combining the organic with her roughly technical caymans odd sign painting.
Looking for some hope, inspo, ways to use lift up your voice in these tumultuous times? Go see HER FORMATION exhibit at the ACLO.
“Nine women artists whose enigmatic artworks offer visions of survival and even imaginative possibility in times of upheaval.”

The amount allotted to national forests is already strikingly paltry! It appears that nearly over a 1/3 of the entire landmass is dedicated to raising livestock. This land needs and deserves restoration. #bringbackourwildlands

This has been a fun exercise but TBF 20 doesn’t cut it-innumerable books have stayed with & not even sure these are my top 20. For instance-didn’t mention Camus once! And you gotta read Camus.

In the center but spreading out to the near edges of the cover is a brilliant verdant hue, the shape is somewhat ovular but resembles a solid and somewhat over zealous thumbprint (no lines) from finger-painting as on the righthand side of the thumbprint a slight angular edge forms.
