You are parroting the argument made in the Trump administration's recent memo ordering a complete reversal of ICE guidance on this point, except that you still don't get that even under this new policy, officers must have some variety of warrant.

I think this is quite accurate and that there are a couple of things potentially going on there:
- Men are hierarchical and tend to be overly impressed by men who seem manlier even by the dumbest yardstick. Winning a "manly man" over to your cause feels like a special elusive accomplishment...
It seems like the YA that's taught in schools these days is often written in diaristic first person with a teen protagonist (so "kids can relate to it") and follows a rigorously linear timeline. As a result, there's little new vocabulary and no need to puzzle out anything that's going on.

Payton v. New York stands for the _opposite_ principle. It says that under the 4th Amendment police can't enter premises in search of a felony suspect without a warrant -- but an arrest warrant is sufficient.
Most immigration law violations aren't criminal; when they are they're usu misdemeanors.

Link to that SCOTUS decision if you don't mind.
The last time I heard, the majority of undocumented people cannot be deemed fugitives because most (not all, but most) immigration law violations are not criminal in nature.

Oh, and an AI dilemma I haven't heard discussed:
the ethics of using AI-branded services that are probably just using it as a buzzword and don't actually incorporate AI.
"EcardAI helps you make e-cards by using the magic of AI to suggest templates for the kinds of cards you like to make!"
In an interesting sign of the times, I noticed the other day that istock, the stock photo site, has added a no-AI guarantee. Many of their competitors are simply labeling AI images.
Smart way to distinguish your product by quality.
Cars are more expensive in relative terms than they were 10-15 years ago, but they're also unambiguously better on average and last longer regardless of where they're made. Why have other manufactured mechanical things declined in quality so much?

I'm still mad that I keep having to replace my fridge and washing machine after 5-10 years of unexceptional daily use, and that's after repeatedly doing minor repairs myself.
