UREGENT AID NEEDED On January 22nd Miriam and her 18-year old daughter Sandra were targeted and pulled over by ICE. Miriam and Sandra were forced out of their vehicle at gunpoint. Miriam was aggressively thrown to the ground and handcuffed, despite informing ICE agents she was 5 months pregnant.
UREGENT AID NEEDED Upon arrival at the Whipple building, daughter Sandra was given a pregnancy test and tested positive. Both mother and daughter were sent to Texas. For weeks, Miriam was experiencing severe and abnormal pregnancy symptoms, and frequently requested to see a doctor. It wasn't until she fainted and was visibly in a dangerous state that the other women in the detention center organized a noise demonstration; chanting and pleading for Miriam to receive medical help.
We need your help bringing two pregnant women back home from ICE detention!

This means this extension can work at a time when our neighbors need it the most.
Itβs the Cityβs responsibility to support our neighbors. Please keep urging the City Council and Mayor to support Pause Evictions, Save Lives. Our communities need this.
My office was able to connect with the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA) and they told us that their research shows that extending the eviction notice period from the state-required 14 days to 30 days has has helped lower the rate of evictions.
05.03.2026 02:04 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 2 π 0Tomorrow the City Council has the opportunity to listen to this call and take a step to take care of our residents.
05.03.2026 02:04 β π 142 π 50 π¬ 2 π 1I think what some of us very compassionate people are struggling with is the fact that at our moments of most acute crisis, MPD has shown itself to be pretty useless, despite the piles of money we shovel at them.

Council discussion of adding MPD health & wellness director. It would be funded with money intended for other positions.
Council Member Soren Stevenson: MPD compliance specialist and an embedded social worker are a "right now need." Wellness director is a real need, but they can fill it in Dec.
I call on my colleagues and Mayor Frey to support this measure. Our neighbors told us loud and clear: they need us. They pleaded with us to take action. Letβs rise to the occasion.
04.03.2026 01:40 β π 19 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I also heard residents remind us about how costly evictions are, and the long-term impacts they have on our communities. We were already in a housing crisis before Operation Metro Surge, and now our residents are warning us of an escalation that we are not at all prepared for.
04.03.2026 01:40 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0We all agree on one truth: we are in a crisis, and our neighbors are struggling. During their testimony, neighbors that are doing the hard work of fundraising, connecting people to resources, patrolling, and more, said that this measure is the BARE MINIMUM we can do right now.
04.03.2026 01:40 β π 8 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0We heard from residents from every part of our city that have been working hard and mobilizing their own resources to help keep our neighbors targeted by ICE in their homes.
04.03.2026 01:40 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I want to thank everyone who came out to todayβs hearing on Pause Evictions, Save Lives, an ordinance to temporarily extend the eviction notice period from 30 to 60 days in response to Operation Metro Surge.
04.03.2026 01:40 β π 27 π 8 π¬ 1 π 0MPD has not submitted a single case involving federal agents for charging. Tomorrow MPD will be before the council, I want to hear from them why. Neighbors have seen way more than their fair share of criminal behavior by ICE

Council Member Soren Stevenson: What do you need from MPD to investigate and charge federal agents?
Moriarty: Met with Commissioner Barnette, told him we were going to roll out TAP. I asked if we could get collaboration with MPD.
if you've donated rent funds, you should be at City Hall today!
03.03.2026 12:44 β π 21 π 6 π¬ 0 π 1Tomorrow weβre taking up Pause Evictions Save Lives, a policy that will temporarily extend pre-eviction notice from 30 to 60 days until August 31st. This will give residents more time to get resources and support so that families can stay together and we can keep people in their homes.

This is Minneapolis:
A neighbor kid Iβve been helping every day since mid Dec gave me a hug today (unprompted), after running to me with a smile at pick up.
I melted.
I wish my neighbors never had to deal with this terror.
And Iβm so grateful to be connected to them & their wonderful kids.

We were literally watching our community provide a ceremony at the Whipple building.
Hennepin County Sheriffβs then began to escalate tensions. This was disrespectful to our community, our culture, and our ancestors.
This created fear and was an attack on our right to peacefully assemble.
video from iceout.org earlier today at the whipple outside minneapolis shows a hennepin county sheriffβs deputy shoving the head of a protestor who was already tackled into the ground
we need someone to challenge dawanna witt for sheriff. this brutality happening under her watch is unacceptable
Promise me you'll start asking the DFL electeds who are attached at the hip with Sheriff Dawanna Witt what they think of the job she's doing.

28.02.2026 20:33 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Especially because once you get an eviction on your record it is extremely difficult to find new housing. The best remedy is prevention and the city has the power to make this happen.
28.02.2026 18:51 β π 48 π 7 π¬ 0 π 0Powerful voices may say things like slowing down the eviction machine "does nothing to solve the problem" and this couldn't be further from the truth. Time is a huge factor when it's comes to evictions and more time means more opportunities to raise money to stay in their home.
