I'll bet a lot of creative people can identify with this one.
I should clarify that I don't actually get this down on myself when I'm working on something!

Here you see a page from LOST IN TAIWAN that I changed quite a lot between the rough draft and the final. The first version seemed a little dull to me, so I revised it to add motion and color.
25.10.2025 21:39 β π 7 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0Two jack-o'-lanterns. When I buy a pumpkin at Halloween time, I always look for the ones that have long stalks like these. How about you?
23.10.2025 21:59 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Illustration from MANGA ART. The image depicts a Japanese "genkan," the area near the front door of a traditional house where people remove their shoes before entering the home. It's a mysterious picture, as even I don't know what it is she's thinking about.
22.10.2025 21:31 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Artwork from MASTERING MANGA 3. I tried to cover as wide a range of styles as I could in that book; this is my version of a sci-fi manga style.
21.10.2025 21:20 β π 8 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Wow thanks, Meg! Doing even a few of these comics made me appreciate just how hard the work is that you've done over the years, and how high a standard you hold yourself to. πππ
21.10.2025 21:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0People seemed to enjoy the cartoon I posted the other day, so here's another one: an exaggeration, but not by much! π
20.10.2025 21:31 β π 156 π 15 π¬ 2 π 2Here's one that seems appropriate to the season: artwork from my video showing how to draw a skull using the "white on black" method.
Here's the vid: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJvC...
Thanks, Meg! You taught me everything I know π
19.10.2025 21:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A few years back I did a series of cartoons that I posted on my various social media accounts. I think this one owes a lot to the work of @artbymoga, who is a master of having a laugh at her own expense. I've always admired this self-deprecating form of humor, in which no one else gets mocked.

18.10.2025 21:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Artwork from CHIBI!, my instructional art book devoted to drawing in this style. I have happy memories of creating this book-- the one time in my career when I was drawing chibi characters all day, every day. π

Many thanks to Jakub J. in Poland, who ordered this piece of original art from my Etsy shop today: a close up pencil illustration of Michelangelo's masterpiece sculpture, The Pieta.

Here's a comparison between the rough pencil version of a page from BRODY'S GHOST with the inked and computer-toned version. Usually I would put a bit more detail into the rough, but in this case I postponed almost all of that work until I sat down to finalize things.
12.10.2025 21:50 β π 11 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0The season seems appropriate for this chibi illustration I did of Heath Ledger's Joker. I normally say that all chibi illustrations are cute, but I'm not sure that's the case with this one! π
11.10.2025 21:35 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1They are both so talented!
11.10.2025 21:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Here are the four I've illustrated so far in my chibi series celebrating creative women I admire: @kara_baldus, @sumayah.bakes, @alicewinterhold.bsky.social, and @artbymoga.bsky.social.
Who do you think I should illustrate next?
These two pictures from LOST IN TAIWAN show the same location at two different times of day: noon vs. very late afternoon. You can see how I altered the colors to convey the two lighting situations.
09.10.2025 21:39 β π 44 π 10 π¬ 0 π 1Every couple of months I create a collaborative illustration for my top Patreon supporters. Here's a section of the latest one: a grocery store in which all of the products were chosen by my patrons. How many of the items can you recognize?

Many thanks to David H., who recently purchased these three pieces of originl art from my Etsy shop. The Talia illustration is an early version of the character; her clothing changed quite a bit by the time I settled on the final design.

A while back I thought I might try to put myself out there as someone who does concept art and character designs. This is one of the sample illustrations I created to demonstrate what my work could look like.
23.09.2025 21:36 β π 24 π 5 π¬ 0 π 0Today is the 40th anniversary of the trip to Europe I made back when I was in college. In this photo you see all the belongings I brought with me, of which the Sony Walkman was perhaps the most important. π
19.09.2025 22:06 β π 10 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0In my book THE COMIC BOOK LESSON, I needed to invent a manga that had been self-published by Madeline, one of the three mentor characters in the story. Thus was born "Electric Angel Nurse Mizuki," a series that maybe has one or two more concepts jammed into it than it really needs. π
17.09.2025 21:46 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0This is me back in 1993, standing outside the "Morioka Shokudo" restaurant with the chef. I was about the leave Japan to head back home, so I went around getting photos of various people that were an important part of my daily life.
Not sure about my clothing choices here, I must say! π

In the course I show you how to do careful studies like this one of a drawing by the impressionist master Edgar Degas.
I had fun creating this "teacup bowl of ramen" a few years back, fashioning all the key ingredients out of paper. The chopsticks were made from toothpicks.

I always look back fondly on the time singer songwriters @meikomusic and @mariedigby invited me to design the poster for their Hapa Tour. The idea was to illustrate anime-style versions of both of them. As a fan of both of them, it was a huge honor for me.
