There are much, much better alternatives to this book - like Lisa Damour's The Emotional Lives of Teenagers. It doesn't come with same problematic analysis that Haidt's books have.

I was recently looking at a Midwest cookbook from the late 70s and the amount of mayo, jello and fruit in combination was...a lot. I remember my mom making a "fancy" appetizer when I was a kid that included half of a canned pear with a dollop Miracle Whip on it, plated on a leaf of iceberg lettuce.

That's the most basic-ass "fancy" dinner, too. Who is excited to eat limp broccolini, and overcooked steak? And at the WH, no less?

Ooooh!! Adding this to my listening queue. A local breakfast place just put up a giant billboard touting how their pancakes are "no longer made with seed oil!!" and I had a feeling it was likely a MAHA thing. (They were terrible during the pandemic, so it seemed a logical conclusion to draw)
