Since its inception in 2014, nearly every community across the county has had a millage-funded project: 116 projects, totaling nearly $45 million, with another 18 projects in the queue if (when!) the millage is renewed in 2026.

For nearly 17 years, as a member of CATA's Board of Directors (8 as Chair), I have worked to build a seamless, multimodal transit system across our region. This millage, and the current partnership between CATA & EATRAN, are hugely important steps toward accomplishing that goal.

Trans youth and their families deserve the freedom to make their own health care decisions without political interference.

Why Police Traffic Stops Are Dangerous and Ineffective | ACLU Millions of drivers are pulled over every year for minor violations like broken taillights or tinted windows. Data shows these stops rarely make roads safer, and instead lead to racial disparities, violence, and loss of trust in police.

Police killed 152 people during routine traffic stops in 2024.

To save lives and protect our constitutional rights, cities must listen to the majority of voters who support limiting or ending police enforcement of certain minor traffic violations.

The constitutional guarantee of due process means the government can’t deprive us of our rights on a whim.

Michigan resident with leukemia, in ICE custody for 2 months, released after judge's order A federal judge ordered ICE to release Jose Contreras-Cervantes, a longtime Michigan resident who lacks legal status. The ACLU says he was detained without consistent treatment for his leukemia.

About a hundred federal courts nationwide have ruled that noncitizens like Jose Contreras Cervantes, who have been living in the U.S., have the right to go before an immigration court judge and seek release.

Trump pushes an end to medical care for transgender youth nationally The White House plans to bar hospitals that treat transgender children and youth from getting any Medicare and Medicaid payments. The move would affect trans youth who have private insurance, too.

This is an extreme and needless intrusion of politics between tens of thousands of families and their doctors.

We will always fight for the freedom of all transgender youth to be themselves and access the health care they need.

ICE Detains British Media Commentator Sami Hamdi, who often speaks against Israel, was in the United States on a speaking tour. The Department of Homeland Security said his visa had been revoked.

While on a speaking tour in the U.S., Sami Hamdi had his visa revoked and was detained by ICE allegedly because of his pro-Palestine advocacy.

This is yet another troubling example of the Trump administration weaponizing the immigration system to punish speech it disagrees with.

Without the First Amendment, we couldn't express our views, defend our civil liberties, or engage in public debate.

Our access to medicine must be dictated by science, not politics. This is a win for our reproductive rights.

How Governors and Mayors Can Protect Nonprofits from Trump's NSPM-7 | ACLU President Trump’s new directive, NSPM-7, targets charities and advocacy groups under the guise of national security. State governors and local mayors can protect them by refusing to cooperate with politically motivated federal investigations.

President Trump's new national security memo aims to target activists and advocacy organizations that he perceives as political opponents.

States and cities must protect sensitive data that could be used by the Trump administration to identify and go after these nonprofits and advocates.

ICE is using faulty and biased face surveillance technology to go after people they suspect of being undocumented.

This is a direct threat to the fundamental rights of every individual and has no place in our cities.

Border Patrol agents under fire for allegedly disrupting children's Halloween parade in Chicago The U.S. Border Patrol is coming under criticism from Chicago residents who claim federal agents disrupted a children's Halloween parade over the weekend.

Heavily-armed federal agents came to a Chicago neighborhood and fired tear gas near children getting ready for a Halloween parade.

This once again shows that the Trump administration's deportation campaign is not about "safety," it's about sowing fear and exerting control.

We successfully sued Trump to stop this cruel separation policy during his first term, and we will continue fighting for all these families.
