US Media Mostly Care for Iranians When They Can Be Used to Justify Bombing
US corporate media tend to humanize Iranians only when they can be portrayed as victims of their own government.
Among the first casualties were at least 175 people in a girlsโ school in Minab. As the corpses of young children are no use to the imperial narrative when killed by the US and Israel rather than by Iran, however, the requisite moral condemnation has been in short supply.

When Trump seized Venezuelan oil at gunpoint, the only mild concern expressed in US corporate media was whether he would use it to enrich himself.

Naomi Bethune on Anti-Black History Month?
In the words of Ida B. Wells: โThe people must know before they can act, and there is no educator to compare with the press.โ
Rather than face up to the ugliness and violence of white supremacy in this countryโs past and present, rather than see it as a scourge we can work together to overcome, the Trump White House insists we pretend racism didnโt and doesnโt exist.

Corporate Media Mock Chicago Teachers for Trying to Help Their Community
Billionaire-owned media outlets have framed teachers' advocacy for their students and communities as self-serving.
By embracing a broader political platform designed to address inequity beyond just schooling, the Chicago Teachers Union has become a target of conservative groups--and a subject of media misrepresentation.

WaPo Layoffs Are Another Way for Bezos to Suck Up to Trump - Truthdig
Just like the "Melania" documentary paid for by Amazon, the billionaire publisher is making cuts to the Washington Post to curry favor with the White House.
Bezos โ who remains Amazonโs executive chair and its largest shareholder โ certainly has an incentive to bribe Trump, after experiencing Trumpโs wrath in his first term.

Why Corporate Media Needed to Misrepresent Jesse Jackson
The Rev. Jesse Jackson's kind of politics terrified an elite that thrives on keeping the 99 Percent divided and conquered.

Reed Lindsay on the War on Cuba
The Trump White House is openly trying to harm the Cuban people, and US media are openly trying to sell that to us as something to root for.
Cuba has been under economic embargo longer than most people have been alive, and US media coverage still reflects a framing that hasnโt shifted much in that time.

NBC News tonight relegated the impending attack on Iran to its 8th story & gave it a whopping 48 seconds. No mention of any justification, no mention of the lack of Congressional authorization, & most certainly no mention of international law. ๐ก

Why Corporate Media Needed to Misrepresent Jesse Jackson
The Rev. Jesse Jackson's kind of politics terrified an elite that thrives on keeping the 99 Percent divided and conquered.
The punditocracy was always looking for a Black leader to replace Jesse Jackson, someone who could symbolize racial equality without the challenge to social hierarchy that would be necessary to achieve it.

An absolutely insane take from the WaPo. Iran isnโt threatening the US with its navy (which would be โgunboat diplomacyโ), itโs defending itself from an imminent US attack. Itโs the US which is practicing gunboat diplomacy, from Iran to Venezuela to Cuba.

Rep. James Talarico On Confronting Christian Nationalism, And Strange Days In The Texas Legislature
The government declaring some information programs to be not "bona fide news" because they are "purely partisan" is not compatible with the First Amendment.
Here's the censored interview Stephen Colbert conducted with James Talarico:

Epstein pressed billionaire media mogul to influence coverage, files reveal
Epstein leveraged ties with Mortimer Zuckerman to try to steer tabloid's coverage of abuse allegations.
"Epstein leveraged close personal and professional ties with the Canadian-American billionaire Mortimer Zuckerman..."
Zuckerman owned the Daily News from 1993 until 2017. He owned the Atlantic from 1980 until 1999. He still owns US News & World Report.

Like Melania Doc, WaPo Layoffs Are Another Way for Bezos to Suck Up to Trump
The Washington Postโs losses, reportedly as much as $100 million a year, are mere pocket change for Jeff Bezos.
The WaPo newsroom, which not too long ago numbered over 1,000 journalists, is down to as few as 400 after last weekโs jettisoning of more than 300 reporters.
โThis is a case study in near-instant, self-inflicted brand destruction,โ said former Post editor Marty Baron.

Ari Berman on Attacks on Voting
Some media still present changes to the electoral process that would make it harder for millions of people to vote as a matter of "election integrity."
The latest development in the Trump administrationโs assault on democracy is the passage of House legislation that would make it much harder to vote--and harder for some than for others.
Our guest this week tracks these dispiriting events, along with the pushback.

Leading Papers Call for Destroying Iran to Save It
The New York Times and Washington Post offer facile arguments for US attacks on Iran, on the assumption that the US wants to brighten Iranians' futures.
Pundits present calls for the US to assault Iran in moral terms, as if the US is interested in enabling the Iranian population to flourish--a premise contradicted by more than 70 years of Washingtonโs policy of inflicting pain on Iranians in an effort to dominate them.

Rupert Murdoch Heads West
The strategy of Rupert Murdoch, always arch-conservative in his politics, has been to start or take over and use media to further his political viewpoint.
Karl Grossman wrote in 2011: โMurdoch has made a travesty of what journalism is supposed to be about. And he has institutionalized this on a global level.โ
And now Rupert Murdoch is spreading his media corruption to California.
