Another thing I literally never said. I said it was a reasonable response. i believe we should engage in these reasonable debates. I believe you do much more harm than good by cancelling and screaming at everyone. I think your response hinders rather than helps trans and queer rights.

The key phrase was, "If they come into conflict...". Some people take a reasoned view that some have sought to protect the rights of trans people in a way that brings them into conflict with women's rights. They say other ways that don't bring them into conflict are preferable. It's reasonable

Stop trolling Stephen. I have literally never said that. It was a point about authors and longlists. Sometimes people disagree. It's okay, it really is. Your aggressive attacks help absolutely nobody.

That's fine Stephen. I'm comfortable with my academic position and the work I do. I do not seek or need your endorsement. it says so much more about you that you go straight for a public denunciation of my suitability for my job because we disagree about whether a writer should be on a longlist

Time to Think by @hannahsbee.bsky.social is such thoughtful journalism: overstretched NHS, ideological influences from outside groups, and group think dynamics that quelled debate within GIDS. Brilliant display of what it means to be an "ally" to trans / gender dysphoric teens.

Spot on. Comprehensive pedestrianisation should be far higher up the agenda in our cities than it is. Nearly wherever cars go, cities get worse. Nearly wherever theyβre removed, those urban spaces flourish.

Well, I might be a fairly typical left of centre academic. But I agree with @sonia-sodha.bsky.social here. Too many on the left now confuse a right to disagree with someone as a right to try and silence / cancel them. It's a self defeating strategy and won't protect what we value in the long run
