I hope the so called ‘professionals’ involved have the decency to feel deep shame. I doubt it. Miscarriages of justice don’t happen that often, that we know of, but the CCRC is ineffectual in its duty to investigate - just look at Andrew Malkinson, asked for years for a review.

I agree with you about today being mostly different, but not always, I believe Panorama recently showed us that. However, there was a police inquiry & they found no evidence of misconduct in this case! I hope that the ‘professionals’ involved in that inquiry are hanging their heads in shame.

They had an inquiry and no evidence of police misconduct was found 🤔 It really is a tragic story, Sullivan was/is a vulnerable person & spent 38 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He wasn’t given legal representation initially & seems plausible allegations of bullying & beating were true

I can see it could be an own goal for people like Musk if the Govt left Twitter, but there is no reason why they can’t post on more moderate and rational sites, like this one, in tandem. They have comms teams FGS - mind you, I do wonder about those at times tbh.

As for it being tiring them saying this, tbf, it took 14 years of Tories to get into this mess, 16 months isn’t going to fix it. Short termism in Govt is rarely a good thing. Long term strategy is.

I know there are many who don’t like AC, but honestly think some of his realism wouldn’t go amiss in the Govt comms team right now.

I should say, I do agree that hotel contracts have been a complete farce. Set up by the last lot to enrich their mates, but still being used! Govt plan to use old forces barracks & thousands take to the streets! I don’t profess to know the answer, but the problem is no one else really knows.

Another expensive white elephant. As I’ve just said in my last post, one has to be very careful when you start a costly joint enterprise or entente with another Govt. Let’s see what the detail is, as frankly I don’t trust the press with their increasingly hysterical second guesses.

But relying on another country’s Govt isn’t always a good idea, especially when domestically they aren’t particularly strong. A change in French Govt could mean all change on support.

Source? The fact is we don’t know. Also, given the half-hearted attempts the French currently make on small boats & their border, you have to wonder if it would have been a costly white elephant. Not making excuses, set up & managed properly it could well have been the answer.

Great post. We need to see what is coming from the Govt themselves. The press has been rabid recently w fantasy plans on all fronts (budget speculation has been particularly bloody!). I think many of us are of the opinion that safe routes need to be established & managed carefully & legitimately.

It never seems to take long to follow the money back to Russia… insidious to a fault.

A sensible take on a complex situation. While there are undoubtedly people gaming the system and abusing the HRA who should be dealt with, there are also genuine people fleeing for their lives. Without a safe, authenticated route, how can you legitimately help the latter?

Gove should never have been allowed to set up a botched pseudo ‘audit’. It stunk then and does now. A truly independent inquiry is the only way to flush out the stench from Houchen & pals.

Sadly, I can’t help thinking that a lot of the people who would vote for them either don’t care or won’t know. They just like a dog whistle to follow. 😞

Yet the BBC, Daily Fail & usual suspects push Fagash & his motley crew like they’re some kind of revolutionary solution to the country’s issues. I’m sorry for those who didn’t vote for them, but happy they’re messing up - I hope the hard of thinking, who would vote for them in a GE, are listening.
