Reminds me of the chapter in Whitehead's Underground Railroad where Cora winds up in a state w/out slavery but that is hegemonically white. Any non-whites caught there are murdered or expunged. The sheer horror of that chapter, of that idea, of an enforced ethnostate, remains embedded in my memory.
