Before Canada had highways, before plows roared down city streets, winter ruled the land. Snow buried the tracks, stopped the trains, and cut off towns for weeks.

But in 1869, a small-town Canadian dentist named J.W. Elliott had an idea that would change winter forever.

People are just losing touch with their basic humanity. I started reading again and I feel far more grounded now... getting into someone else's head and how they process what they are going through is very therapeutic.

Worry about your own country and the damage being done there every day.

Do you even know what that means?

Iceland can manage their own needs.

Living in a rural area usually means you are more able to grow food, have space to store it for the winter, have a place to build and store tools... even simpler things like in-home washers and dryers for your laundry.

Living in cities makes people far more dependent on outside sources for practically everything. Outsourcing basic things is just the price of living in a place and in a way where it simply makes sense.

I bet this person is an absolutely terrible houseguest. "Oh, I just brought my entire family to stay in your 2 bedroom home... let me raid your fridge and medicine cabinet."

There is a reason we have a low population for the size of our landmass.

You have 10 times the population we have.

The union people seem to be too afraid of losing their jobs and obedient to actually see through a strike.

The Air Canada flight attendants kept up their strike after the order for binding arbitration and actually changed things. They were willing to risk a lot and showed their backbone.

Talking to those you fundamentally disagree with can help you better understand how to deal with them.

So you want us to build up our medical field for short term, let people come in and stay a few years before they leave?

They fixed the system to prevent such things from happening again and then Reagan started breaking that down again.

Do you have a point to make?

The difference is freedom and self-determination.

If a country wants to go socialist or communist it can do so, I would just hope that those who do not want to live that way are able to leave.
