The cast is clearly trying their absolute best to adapt the material and I have to respect that.

But, this story just works better in the anime/manga medium where things can be so cartoony and expressive and larger than life.

But for me personally, Season 1 was like "holy shit this is so much better than the live action Death Note or Cowboy Bebop!"

And as of S2 I'm like "well, it is better than those, but... still meh"

Course you'd be missing out on some of the backstory and connections, but that's the nature of one piece.

I do think though the whole point and value of one piece is that it IS such a long-format story, so if you aren't in for that, you may as well just do something else.

I think if somebody is interested in One Piece but doesn't want to watch all 1000 episodes (just watch all 1000 episodes, take your time, there's no rush)

Agreed there. I found the show hard to watch up until that point honestly, didn't hate it but didn't really love it until Water 7. Even Skypeia I thought dragged hard.

But holy shit the art style in Wano is a completely different thing.

I also just don't see them going past Alabasta. I don't think you can do things like Skypeia, Thriller Bark or Marineford without going to outrageous MCU level budgets or otherwise half-assing it so bad there's no point.

That may apply to Season 1 but is that going to work in Season 2 of live action when you have uncanny valley chopper around all the time? Seems like it becomes apples and oranges at that point at best.

Detective inspector is what you are when you are given the clues as laid out by the author and come to the twist either on your own or see it laid out as the author intended for it to be revealed.

Having it spoiled means you don't get to play detective because you already got the answer.
