Ethics are indeed a concern, regardless of the application of LLMs, but it seems that at least for coding, there's no real...concerns over sharing what you've written with a dataset, per se? Is that the case?

As has been pointed out, I'm a normie in terms of the field of coding. I know nothing of Why. I thought I was asking a fair question, and the response was to be ignored, then mocked by apparent experts, so...yeah.

I mean, my initial post with Why came from a mix of not liking LLMs, most people I'd interacted with saying it's not great for coding, and not having faith in authority figures to be particularly competent just because they hold their job. The rest was discussion.

I consider the actual responses and attempts to educate far more useful for everyone as it avoids the situation in the first place, and for some, could even create advocates. I'm not really going to end up that way due to personal experiences with LLMs and art/writing, but now I'm not going to...

I don't think attempting to make light of others is really positive in the end. Were I someone to really care, this sort of thing could be greatly upsetting - at which point, the polite laughing is at the expense of someone.

To me, the 'they' would be executives in charge of the company wanting to cut as many 'expenses' as possible, not you, really. I understand and appreciate that you, at least, are aiming to make the world easier and better. That's a noble goal.

It also makes me wonder about people in future learning to maintain. Would they get the same education, and hands-on-experience, to learn to spot errors and that like you have if they've never had to write in the code themselves? How do you feel that'd be handled?

Maybe its the cynic in me, but that feels very hopeful? Like, maybe you'll be lucky and go into the maintainence role, but in a Capitalist world, I imagine they'd try to automate that, too. It feels like the end goal of LLMs, in the corporate world, is not to make jobs easier but to eliminate jobs.

I'm suggesting I've had friends tell me its crap, seen experts say its crap, and just now come across people who tell me its good failing to educate and instead take screenshots to laugh at. It's not the most convincing.

In which case I genuinely hope your replacement is as competent as you. That's not a dig, by the way - you're apparently pretty skilled, so it'd be a shame for whatever place loses you to simply be downgrading.

With advocates like these, I can't imagine why more people aren't accepting LLMs.
