Keep writing, Nyphile. Your book and voice will matter to someone, deeply.

I had a similar feeling writing mine. Is my story about the horror of money going to mean anything if it's finished after a general collapse of society? I decided that, yes, it would. A Roadside Picnic was written about the slow collapse of Soviet Russia, and it's more important than ever.

Can do, and I'm not worried. Tolken is incredible, but we're swinging at different pinatas.

If you aren't, feel free to tell me to fuck off. I am making a cold call here and nobody appreciates an unexpected sales pitch.

The book is a love letter to Terry Pratchett, David Graeber, and the fun you can have with the English language. If this is of interest, let me know and I can get you the epub, or the base Google Docs if you feel like leaving comments.

Well, here's the long shot: I wrote a book called The Money Pit. It's a dry, comedic fantasy, set in a world where money is magic and debt is a curse. The plot revolves around a pair of academics fighting for control of a magic coin with so much invested net worth it can refund time spent.

Kind of a long shot but do you like Terry Pratchett and or comedy books in general?

Someone mentioned that taking Greenland could also be a first step to isolate Canada from Europe, and that doesn't seem like an impossible leap to make.

I was explaining to someone the other day the work you did on BPRD, The Marquise, and some of the best parts of Del Toro's visual style.

a stylized illustration with the text "generative AI was never ethical". The piece features a black cat pulling cables out of the back of a robot. The robot has a conveyor belt attached to it that is pulling in packages that read "stolen art, stolen writing, stolen voices, stolen videos, stolen likeness, stolen photos, stolen books, stolen code, and stolen ideas." The piece is a reminder that generative ai was built on the backs of real artists, photographers, writers, and everyone else's creative expressions as humans in order to churn out slop to feed back to us.

Hell yeah. I love fictional companies. They get to express a unified aesthetic that the real world simply cannot reach.

The image features the Protagonist of Skate Story, the Demon of Glass and Pain. It's a crystal figure with iridescent light reflecting off of it. It's doing a sick jump off of its skateboard. A golden moon and rabbit frame the figure, while a mask from the band Blood Cultures makes up the background.

Was inspired by Skate Story tonight.

Laralyn McWilliams was a game designer. The photo shows them speaking at a conference. She has short cut gray hair, glasses, and the hint of a smile.

I'm quite late on this, but the world is crazy, so my apologies.

I just learned that Laralyn McWilliams passed away back in 2024. They had an incredible career and I used to follow them on Twitter.

Terribly sorry to learn they're gone.

Also she was nice enough to use her experience as a fellow service worker to give him an experience he would be happy to remember.

Incredible film, wonderful message. Fantastic subtext.

Erin gets away in the end because she's smart enough to weird that law against him. By asking, "can I get this to go," she invokes the right of the good and considerate customer to leave the premise, and flee back through the wall separating reality from Arcadia.

I'm a huge fan of the fairy king interpretation of the film, where Slowik is a being of law, binding those who enter his realm via the social expectations of etiquette.

Your name was the first time I had ever heard the work, years ago, and it's the reason that electricity is called corustatic in my novel.

I can see what's happening here. They're calling the final location That the model is supposed to end up at, but they're doing it before they swap out the sit animation for the stand up animation. As a result it's instancing the stand animation first and then you see it jump to the correct one.

It's why Stack and Mary arent a vampire apocalypse at the end of the film. They have an authentic culture/identity despite the fact that they've become monsters. The ravenous consumption isn't a guaranteed aspect of this curse.

I'm a big fan of the interpretation where Remmick represents monoculture. You let it in and it will devour your identity as a distinct community/nation/etc. Remmick wants that feeling of authenticity back and will devour the world to get it.
