I started making refrigerator pickles during the pandemic. Last night I made my first batch of self-stable, water bath canned pickled vegetables. They need a few weeks to mellow (lots of vinegar), but I can't wait to see how they turned out and hope to not get botulism :D

I just learned about Daruma dolls, a traditional Japanese talisman of perseverance and good luck. I set a goal and color in one eye. The Daruma then watches silently as motivation. When the goal is achieved, I fill in the other eye, completing the Daruma's vision. White represents personal goals.

If you get one of these deceptive return postage paid mailers from the #FreedomFoundation, you know what to do. Send it back, of course!

TBH I'm surprised Disney caved. But that's how fascism works I guess. They chose the path of least resistance because they want to make easy money and not fight the good fight.

Made "Marry Me Chicken" stuffed spaghetti squash. Sounded great, but I definitely wouldn't have married anyone for it. Waste of good homemade sun-dried tomato pesto IMO. Good thing he already married me 🤣

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...the best Disney musical that wasn't a Disney musical. The best James Bond musical that wasn't a James Bond musical. Peak Dick Van Dyke, peak Sherman brothers. So good...

Bahaha, look what the Freedom Foundation sent me in the mail today. And what's this? They included a postage paid return envelope! I wonder how many heavy objects I can fit in there, along with my note telling them where they can shove their phony check for $900. #freedomfoundation #unionstrong

Ladybug luck on the 11th floor of the Portland Building! It didn't land on me, but it landed on my window, so I still consider that good luck 😍🐞 #lucky #ladybug

Fresh batch of refrigerator pickles...red onion, jalapenos, carrots, and radishes. I separated the onion this time so it doesn't overpower the other vegetables. This jazz is so good on everything. #diy #pickles

DIY dishwasher repair for the win! Replacing the faulty control board didn't take any special expertise, and I saved at least $250 by doing it myself. #diy #youcandoit

The bootlickers at Google have misspelled Gulf of Mexico. You should go to Google Maps and report the error. On desktop, use the 3-bar menu, select Edit the Map > Your opinions about Maps. On mobile, go to your profile pic > Help & Feedback > Send product feedback. #bootlickers #gulfofmexico

A trio of colorfully-lit Elvira-themed pinball games.
What do you call a group of Elviras? (Answer below...)

Why, a "mist" of course! (i.e. Mistress of the Dark.) We found a mist of Elviras last night at QuarterWorld <3

Just got my copy of the AAA Road Atlas for 2024. I love paper maps!!! HOT TIP: If any paper maps actually go into production that say Gulf of America, snap them up!! They'll be valuable collectors items you can show your kids from this brief, unfortunate time American history.

Tonight's menu: butternut squash and black bean enchiladas with mole sauce from Gregory Gourdet's cookbook, avocado, elote, and Spanish style brown rice. Paired with non-alcoholic "margronis" (lime, agave, DHŌS Bittersweet, soda, salted rim).

Cybertruck
(With apologies to Joyce Kilmer)
I think that I shall never ride
A truck so ugly, yet so wide.
A truck whose angles stab the air,
Yet makes folks stop and point and stare.
A truck that thinks it looks so cool,
While shaped like blocks I drew in school.
A truck that blinds with stainless sheen,
And dents despite its brutal theme.
A truck whose glass once met a ball,
And shattered live in front of all.
Cool cars are made by folks with taste,
But only Musk could love this waste.
Just saw one in our cul-de-sac 🤢🤣

Also, the Busy Bee Cafe is a historic restaurant, Black-owned, and a James Beard winner for their fried chicken. But I think they may still be in a takeout-only post-pandemic mode. We ventured over there hoping to dine in but ended up having to take the food back to our hotel. Amazing food though.

Dinner at Trader Vic's in the Hilton seems like a no-brainer :) Then walk across the skybridge to the Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotel. The lobby atrium is truly mind-bending. You can ride the glass elevator to the very top. It was so amazing and trippy, we had to go back and see it again.

I've got some excellent motivation: I'm starting to get osteoarthritis in my knee and need to lose some weight and decrease inflammation so I can keep my mobility. First step: lose booze, sugar, and wheat. Not easy, but I'm determined :)
