mine are simple: nobody should ever have more than they need when there are people who are suffering because they don't have enough.

in my dreams, today is a turning point where we shift our thinking from buying toward borrowing + mending + repurposing + going without.

where everyone who is able to begins to shift their necessary spending to the businesses that actually need + deserve our business.

i hope today marks the beginning of the end of haul videos. i hope every influencer with an amazon storefront is thinking deeply about how they really want to wield their influence. i hope we are all realizing that the dopamine hit of an impulsive purchase is an empty + hollow promise.

i hope we are using today's economic blackout as day 1 of a long-term commitment to shifting how we engage with capitalism.

i hope that it inspires us to be more mindful of our spending, to remember that many of our purchases will exist forever, and to reclaim the power of our individual choices.

everyone assures me that constant sickness just comes with the territory at this age.

when we were last there for strep/pneumonia no one asked about prior covid infections.

(my mom has lived with ME/CFS since long before it had a name so i am all too familiar with the medical establishment's ignorance of post-viral illness + penchant for gaslighting when they don't have an answer)

i am lucky to have a family-friendly job that allows me to work remotely when i need to.

(oh the guilt of being unreliable! oh the unbearable weight of worry!)

we're off to the doctor again this afternoon.

i've lost track of how many sick days my kids have taken since october.
