Grateful to have presented our film PRISM made by Rosine Mbakam, Eléonore Yameogo and I at de Brakke Grond in Amsterdam, with @mu.zee. Thanks to the wonderful curators for finding the perfect context to present the film: during Keti Koti, to celebrate the abolished regime of slavery in Indonesia!

Keti Koti: de Surinaamse feestdag ter viering van de afschaffing van de slavernij. Samen met Frascati, presenteert de Brakke Grond een programma met theater, film en gratis heri heri. Op 30 juni Free Heri Heri. Aansluitend wordt we PRISM getoond met een nagesprek met makers van Dienderen en Yameogo.

A ship carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza was bombed just off the coast of Malta on Friday, with activists saying that Israel bears responsibility for the attack on the vessel aiming to break Israel’s two month-long total aid blockade on the Gaza Strip.

The Gaza Government Media Office says famine is spreading in the besieged enclave, with “more than a million children at risk, amid a stifling blockade and shameful international silence."

Rindon Johnson is a visual artist and poet. Johnson’s work concerns the effects of capitalism, climate. For his exhibition at Cc Strombeek, Johnson examines the colonial history of the wood type mahogany in the 18th century and reflects on its ecological consequences. Very recommended exhibition!

My husband Emile van Binnebeke talks on 28 February at the expo of the artist Rindon Johnson at Cc Strombeek. In the 18th century, colonial Americans became enamored with mahogany, which became the height of fashion yet hiding a story of violent exploitation.

Maryland National Guard out of Frederick Douglass parade after DoD order Strict guidance from the national defense department crushed plans for a parade held in honor of Frederick Douglass’ 207th birthday because it was being held during Black History Month.

“The Maryland National Guard must decline events which celebrates individuals based all or in part on immutable characteristics,” the memo said.

Douglass was an abolitionist, suffragist, orator and author. That’s what we celebrate him. Let’s be clear: This bars celebrating him because he was Black.
