Why Poetry Matters YOU’VE BEEN SINGING IT ALL ALONG You don’t have to call yourself a poetry lover to connect with it. In fact, many people who say they “don’t do poetry” already do, just not on the page. Think about it: you’re driving, or walking, or sitting on the bus. A song comes on. The lyrics kick in, and suddenly you’re singing along, perhaps because it’s catchy, but maybe because it's it’s true, it's you!.

You don’t have to love #poetry to feel it. A #lyric hits, a line lands and suddenly, it’s yours. This is about #music, #memory, and why #ModernPoetry isn’t what you learned in school.

#NationalCreativityDay On 30th May 2025, the UK will mark National Creativity Day. It was founded in 2018 by Hal Croasmun, a screenwriter and the founder of ScreenwritingU, an online screenwriting school. His aim was to recognise the value of creativity in all its forms in everyday life. The day was created as a response to how easily creative expression can be overlooked, especially in fast-paced, productivity-focused cultures.

#NationalCreativityDay is your chance to flex the creative muscles you think you don’t have. Draw a wonky line, write a sentence, snap a photo of something overlooked. Start small. It still counts.

ABOUT I’ve loved art for as long as I can remember. I was born in the 60s and one of my earliest influences was watching Paint Along With Nancy on TV. Nancy Kominsky taught me, and countless others, how to mix colours, grid a face and find balance in a composition, all from the comfort of the living room. That was the start.
