We found that many simple chiral amines combining certain H-bond donors and acceptors show this effect with the appropriate solvent. So, don’t restrict yourself with CDCl3! You might be missing interesting supramolecular information and save a lot of time determining enantiomeric purities!

Thanks to intermolecular interactions, certain compounds can form transient diastereomeric complexes that can lead to splitting of signals in NMR.

In this work, Anka, Vanda, Ben and I carried out a systematic study to decipher what makes a compound show self-induced diastereomeric anisochronism (SIDA effect). This amazing phenomenon allows to determine enantiomeric ratios by NMR without adding anything!
