111 were fab. I did a Long Covid vertigo back fall 2 wks ago. Scary shite. So just pain killers and taking down despotic regimes in mi'disturbed sleep. Where shall we go next? x
PS I seem to have turned a bit greenish hue too.

Every time I pop a pain killer for my fractured pelvis, yet another despot falls. This could be endless?

Hey, y'all! Like me, Spencer is an archaeologist who got sick in the first wave and developed long COVID. The US is abysmal for support, but the UK has its problems as well. We need to keep Spencer housed. So many of you watched me as I tried to get back into housing. Let's make this easier for him!

Aww, bless you. Every penny still helps. 7th anniversary of hell this April, housebound since 2020 and fractured my pelvis (vertigo) the other week.

Spence in heather, out to pasture.

Pension letter today, short because there aren't many numbers and they are small. I retired on 9-Feb-2026 age 59 (due to disability, the #LongCovid life-upside-down mess). Very strange feeling. Cash runs out in 7 years, state pension age in 2033, but hey ho for now. Housebound & fractured pelvis.

My last two professional roles, hi-tech business ops global corps, albeit pre-2012, FIVE interviews each & every interviewer bored themselves sh*tless. Got both the jobs, 1 decider each, burnt to cinder by the end. Inhuman. So I moved to heritage & archaeology self-employed. ££££££ to £ but alive.

Aye, one wing left unvovered (the main house). No pilae but had nice flue vents up the walls, Y shaped stone hypocaust. Cycled there in the 70s, 50mile round trip, sore arse for days. Helmsley is also lovely to stay (The Feathers is fab). My home turf. Meso ont't mi'moors. Lion Inn Blakey also fab.

At least in prehistory we merely had to contend with burnt mounds, sauna barrows, occasional steam scalds (possible chaffing), hop brewing and saline reduction. Then a dip in a Holocene lake. Get a grip, pull a pint.

2/2 there are very questionable judgements (by the finder) at play, which encroach on moral & ethical considerations, "professional". Nor is there sufficient coordination in our heritage/arch sectors to address the flaws (incl MD licensing). Also, in this case, a PR disaster, hypocrisy in action.

I posted on BAJR today, garnered lots of responce, from shrugging > accusations of bullying, much betwixt, recognising the entire system (and law) here is flawed. The law hasn't been broken. However, if finds like this (UEA & the prof) are placed in public domain, constructive criticism is legit >>

Why a set of gold coins have divided British archaeologists In 2024 a detectorist found some gold coins in Suffolk. The discovery was declared legally treasure. If a museum wanted the coins, the finder would have been rewarded with a sum equivalent to their ma...

Mike Pitts on the latest failure of the metal detecting regime in England and Wales.

It would be a irony richly deserved if the closest England's metal detectorists got to licensing were to be the name of the latest of their number to cash in their casino chips, at Noonans, one coin at a time.

Suspect you have to find a specialist contractor. Some might do it for free for some good PR.

SIX DAYS LATER. After the big backwards vertigo fall last weekend, a few things I can do without screaming too much. Bed - gas - toilet - sneezing - coughing. Stairs are mountains, still daren't shower. Tiny progress. Pelvic fracture probable (NHS 111 doctor). #LongCovid

My GP Practice, London, was "sold off" and since then fell apart. The NHS problem w/Long Covid, similarly ME-CFS, is they're not structured for complexity & multi-causal/physiological illness, not holistic. LongCovid has >6 different systemic but connected dysfunctions. Hence no treatments/training.

Aye. I remember when we met at Low Hauxley. Still Long Covid housebound, 7yrs in April. Bad fall on Saturday, poss fractured pelvis (NHS 111 are fab). These are yours too. Met Lynda when I popped into Rothbury.

Sounds like a possible patchwork going on. Pretty much everything I've seen in the NE of England has had fieldwalking at the very least, for years. Won't name the orgs, but I'd certainly suggest N Yorks is well served by the commercials.

18.02.2026 19:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Breath-taking. I've laid in the grass of Hod Hill a few times, amongst cow pats. Plus the detail inside the Roman fortlet top L. Outstanding. Was Vespasian here?

Not sure about your second point here... everything I've encountered, commercial, recently has involved systematic fieldwalking where that's practicable (as an observer). No?
