I’ve been reading Erich Fromm since yesterday and shared a few posts about it. I think I get these types now. They build overly idealized archetypes in their heads, and the moment they step outside those limits, their balance collapses and their so called progressive ideas fall apart.

Erich Fromm, writing in the 1950s, called himself a secular humanist, yet he still builds love on a male–female unity myth that feels almost theological. God is gone, but the metaphysical blueprint survives. And honestly, even when I read him out of intellectual curiosity, it just bores me now. 🥱

Far right leaders try to understand things by breaking them. They hurt what they touch, like a child tearing apart a butterfly to see how it works. But they are not innocent like a child, they simply do not know how to love.

Sadism and masochism came up in the book I was reading. These urges to control and be controlled are so strong that even Hitler killed himself when he realized he had lost, surrendering to masochism. To deal with a sadist, you have to push until their resistance breaks.

We spend almost all our energy figuring out how to get success, status, money, power.

By the time it comes to learning how to love, we have nothing left to give.

You say you won’t repeat your father’s mistakes when you grow up, but you’re still using Windows. I just wanted to remind you of that as a MacBook user 😆
