For Black History Month in the US, one of the most haunting things I've ever encountered at a museum: the silhouette of Flora, a 19 year old enslaved woman, made from life around 1796. I don't think I've ever seen a shadow carry such weight or sorrow. On display at New York Historical Museum.

Variety and Choice: Birmingham Buttons and New Modes of Making Buttons were an important fashion adornment on eighteenth-century clothing, especially men’s clothing.
