It is ridiculous, isn't it. And completely devoid of any drama. Every shootout is so one-sided you never really feel threatened, which is a bit ridiculous when it's 4 infantry vs a platoon armed with HMGs, rockets and snipers

Ah that's a shame. I really enjoyed the whole series, the unrelenting menace and self-serving characters felt different to most medieval-style fantasy fiction. I can't recall whether is was a slow burner or not, but most of his books have a dramatic last act so maybe persevere for just a bit more...

Usually... but there's a big dose of 'depends' on that - if someone gets malware into your transpiler, or linter, or bundler, who knows what you are deploying? Supply chain attacks are an oft-overlooked risk.

Reliability, repeatability, complexity... most other parts of the testing pyramid have established conventions and tools which just work for 90% of cases. E2E always feels like you need to reinvent the wheel for everything.
